My husband loves horseracing and while I'm not a huge fan, I know he will always want to attend the big races at Saratoga. We live in Los Angeles and in the past have always booked expensive hotel rooms in the past. Since we have kids now, I'm brainstorming the best way to get us a timeshare in lake George. Obviously I want to buy resale but don't see any for sale. Or is there a way to trade into the lake George timeshare through Hilton? I own dvc and currently in escrow for a 4800 platinum package with hgvc.

There are a few timeshares in Lake George, but I believe they are small and independent. You might want to check the exchange companies. You might also want to search for Berkshire (MA) timeshares as there are a few there. Maybe an hour from the track. Lake George is a summer destination for down-staters and Canadiens. It is not cheap, with mostly older motels and cottages.

For years, there has been a cottage industry of home rentals in Saratoga. Locals go away for the track season and rent their complete homes for the duration. You might search "Saratoga race rentals." Many of the stately mansions on upper Broadway are rented for the season by wealthy tourists. There are also a number of new condominiums downtown. Of course, the major races are always on the weekend - the Travers being the biggest one.

If you are "stuck" with the idea of a hotel room, Clifton Park (15 minutes south) has a multitude of new hotels. That may put a little downward pressure on rates. But race season is a seller's market, and you would be best to plan in advance.
