Walking reservation - someone blocked 1 day following of my reservation

I have been walking a reservation for the last 10 days. I logged in December 31 to walk the reservation but the system showed the following single day after my reservation as being 'reserved'. At midnight last night - specifically 12:14am EST, logged in and the 'other' reservation is now 2 days after mine.

This is at Kingsland for a BR2 room type. I am assuming that there is more inventory than a single room, but not sure on that.

Anyone have any insights as to how someone could reserve a single night (and now 2)? Also - any advice to help prevent this type of behavior in the future?

What are your dates for your current reservations? If you were walking the reservation then on 12/31/25, you should have had through 10/3/26, which was a Saturday. So now you are crossing a Saturday, which means that there could be less inventory on the following week. That is what has happened. Someone was logged on at midnight and picked up the last inventory.

that makes sense. Just seems like that would mean very small inventory for the BR2 room type. You are correct on the dates.

I guess the lesson here is that the timing of Saturday for walking reservations is the most important. Be on at exactly midnight to walk the reservation or possibly get blocked.

Well, not just Saturday. The key is that you need to be careful when the date that you are booking crosses a HW check in date. Could be Friday, Saturday, or Sunday depending on the property but Saturdays, in general, are busier days. You can wait to see if it becomes available later. I have done that and added it later.

Inventory can also be pulled out during the week.

That happened to me when I was trying book OO. Had it set to work and then they took all the available inventory out. Such a bummer.
Ugh... Did you figure out your dates?

I've never tried this at all ... how far ahead it too far?

And going back to another thread; is this a MODIFY every time? Or is it a cancel and rebook?

Another question:
What if you booked during some 60% off window? ( this is an active special that ends today .... I'd love to 'walk' an NY set of days only three or four weeks into the future! i.e. You walk out of the discount window.

Normally, to walk, you just modify the reservation, as long as you are in the window to change it, 61+ days for HGVC. Now, with the properties that have migrated to the Diamond system, you have to cancel and rebook but some Diamond owners have told be that is the way their system works, which seems odd.

Once you leave the discount dates the unit is no longer discounted.

I'd love to 'walk' an NY set of days…

You can’t really walk NYC (or DC) because there is no minimum stay requirement.

Each and every day at midnight, anyone can book the next day whether they have a reservation for the night before or not.

I walked a Central 5th reservation this past December. The trick was to book a 1 night reservation and then walk it from there. By doing so, it guaranteed that I had my initial date and was able to expand. So, you can really walk a NYC reservation. To me, that was important to get what I wanted in December.

I'm happy that you got your reservation...but you can't 'walk' in NYC.

You're having that 1 night reservation didn't prevent other people from getting the unit/dates you wanted...it was just that no one else wanted them.

To add on to ljmii, in true "walking" you are booking 3 nights at the 9 month window and adding a night, like you did, but the difference is that others can't jump in because they need 3 nights to start a reservation, in HGVC, so they are blocked.... They can't start a new 3 night reservation because it isn't available. Now, you are kind of walking by adding a night each day as they become available but, anyone can grab that night ahead of you
