Waiohai vs. Ko Olina

I have only been to Waiohai, so I can not compare the two.

But I think you are reading too much into the small difference in the average ratings. Ko Olina is rated at 9.29 (84), and Waiohai is at 9.37 (67). This is as close to a tie as you can get.

Given the unscientific system of asking TUG members to rate a resort on a 1 to 10 scale, I would call both a 9+ rather than reading too much into the decimal places. Ratings are only in 1/2 increments and most are between 9 and 10 for both resorts. Ko Olina had one rating as low as 6.5, if you take out just that one rating the average jumps to 9.32.

Just look at the ratings as a guide and do not read too much into them!

That chart is interesting. Looking at that chart I would want a 3 bedroom annual which would cost OVER $100,000 plus over $4,000 per year. That's a lot of money in my book. A re-sale Marriott Ko Olina looks pretty darn cheap compared to that!
I came to that same conclusion during our recent Aulani promotional tour.

Here's a Points chart for Disney's Aulani resort. Weekly point costs for a 2BR range from 343 for a "Standard" view in the lowest "Adventure" season to 595 for an "Oceanview" in the highest "Premier" season. As of 11/01/10 the points cost $120 each with incentives that could drop the price to as low as $102 each. (Don't know if there have been price changes since then.) 2011 MF's are $4.0371 per point.

The 1 and 2br units at Aulani are smaller than the Marriott's but I believe the 3br unit at Aulani is bigger at 2174 sq ft. Still not worth costs IMHO compared to rental prices at Marriott or the private condos at the KoOlina Beach Club.

I did not think Waiohai was at all luxurious. Very ordinary IMO. I was surprised. It had a motel feel. The pool areas were cramped and not very attractive. I don't get it either.

Add to that the constant rain. LOL
