Waiohai Beach Club or repeat KBC

Everyone's tastes are different for sure. We go to Hawaii resorts to spend time outdoors, at the beach and at the pools. We have never spent more than eating breakfast on a lanai. Other than that, we are really never in the room during daylight hours. Though a great view from the room is nice, we will always choose overall resort amenities over sitting in the room or on a lanai.

If you like sitting on a balcony with a view of the water, then Waiohai is definitely not for you as a trader.

And today we were given a unique OV villa at Waiohai. Very private lanai with a great view…but only select seats from inside the villa see anything but bushes and trees. Yet convenient location and underground parking.

Life at Waiohai is indeed a box of chocolates.

Ah…Waiohai. When the robberette opened this morning I went to get my M-I-L a latte and the guy ahead of me in line was greeted with, “Good to see you, welcome back!” They chatted for a bit and I found out that this year he’s here for four weeks.

Yesterday evening in the adult pool I overheard another conversation with one couple asking another how long they would be staying this year and the answer was, “Almost two months”.

I’m sure there must be other resorts where similar things happen…but Waiohai is the only one we frequent.

Very sad day for us 15+ (20?) or so years ago. Husband had a great purchase lined up for us for 2 weeks in building 2 I think. Marriott took it in ROFR. Soured him on spending time lining up a purchase for Marriott ever again.

As far as I know, the property doesn't have fixed units, so building 2 on the deed would have been irrelevant.

Imagine how sour that would have tasted.

He is an attorney so things take him longer than the average person because he reads every word in everything 😊. I am not even sure how much we knew about ROFR (which would be on us of course) because we had only owned FSA for a few years. And it was before we knew about TUG and possibly before TUG started tracking ROFR. And it was for $5K/week (probably more like 20 years ago) so of course Marriott wanted them.

The deed had a building and unit # on it so I think it was specific. To this day when we stay there - which is a rare stroke of luck because it is through II - we sigh when we walk by that unit.

That is how all floating weeks work. It is assigned a deeded week and unit number for inventory purposes. It still floats. Chance are low to zero you would ever be assigned the deeded unit number unless you specifically requested it and all the starts aligned. So no need to feel too bad you didn't get it, though as an owner you would probably get one of the better units.

Thanks dioxide45. From what I understand owners, especially multi-unit owners get all of the good units, although we have been lucky.

Durning the height of Covid we stayed there for a few weeks and had a very nice, but even then when the place was nearly empty, not spectacular, unit. We spent two months on the islands when I realized it was safer there than in California because Hawaii shut down so dramatically. It was heavenly. No crowds. Not much of anything but it was beautiful and we were fine cooking for ourselves.

Yes, it does seem that multi-week owners staying for multiple weeks get the better units. They likely don't get their deeded unit though. Many actually would have many different deeded unit and week numbers and still be placed into the same unit for the duration of their stay.

They get priority for requests by design but it's still done by a person so there is variability. Unit availability for the first week of the stay is a major factor as well.

We loved this timeshare (Poipu) when we stayed several (many) years ago. We overlooked the little pond and there was a heron that came every day to survey the offerings. The birds sang in the palm trees, it was wonderful. We spend so much time at the beach, and there is one just west that is wonderful too, that it didn't matter what we saw from our room, except I guess we were lucky in our placement. We have stayed in the Lihue timeshare also, it was fine but is the view really that great? People at the beach, in the water, large ships coming in and out. It isn't really wild shoreline. The area around Kauai Beach Club is very commercial. We were recently there for a dinner at Dukes and spent some time touring the area. It was a tad disappointing, felt very "cheap".

I began to fear the Honu wouldn't show, but he arrived yesterday...
