Waikoloa,Hawaii

The better beaches on the Big Island are the ones you have to drive to. Hapuna Beach, or the beach at the Mauna Kea.

We have stayed at the Bay Club and Kohala Suites, all with RCI trades. Never traded into Kingsland, it didn't really appeal to us as we're not big pool people. We like a pool on site, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy. Access to the pools at the Hilton wasn't all that appealing either. We stayed one night at the Hilton, before there were timeshare units there. Our kid got kind of bored of the pools within a few hours, and they were very crowded.

Of the two properties we stayed in we preferred Bay Club as the units were larger. We really liked being on the first floor where our daughters could just walk out to the lawn to play there.
Isn’t that funny… the lower floors are considered lower tiers, and thus lower point value, but it’s actually kinda nice having it be like a giant back yard that you can just walk right out to.

As I said, we got our units through RCI trades so never knew about the point values.

It depends. If you have family and particularly kids that are 12 and under, you can't beat the super pool. We don't own HGVC and I've considered buying many, many times just for Kingsland.

The units at the Bay Club are larger and it's much more quiet. I think an adult couple would likely enjoy Bay Club more. The units are also closer to shopping and the beach (not a great beach, but I think it's fine).
Having stayed at BC multiple times and Kohala a couple, we are now hooked on Kingsland. And we're not really pool people. We get Phase 1, so it's by the Serenity (quiet) Pool and we just find the vibe much better for hanging on the lanai in the morning and/or afternoon. The vibe at BC (or Kohala) was so much less for us that we find the extra points worth it.

All are an easy walk to HWV.

This is, of course, very, subjective.

Cheers.

Which unit gets you into phase 1?

Interesting, because we've had exchanges before where you weren't impressed with King's Land.

We first stayed a Bay Club and Kohala before KL was built, and purchased pre-construction in 2007. We got points in 2009 but could not stay there.

We still like Bay Club, but the smaller Kohala unit layout is not ideal with the angled dining wall. We even like the phase 2 KL small units.

Which unit gets you into phase 1?

At the very least the 1BP gets guaranteed Phase 1. This post has all the relevant deets.

This would have been a while ago, before we actually stayed. Visiting it looked nice, but the main draw seemed to be the big pool, and we're not really pool people. Now that we've stayed and experienced what, to us, is a superior ambiance, our views have changed.

Cheers.

Kind of a silly question but for anyone that has stayed at Kings Land in the past with points, do they ever upgrade your room? We've been to KL 3 or 4 times just booking thru hilton website so finally got a deed. Will be there this summer and I used points for the cheapest 2 bed points wise. Not that it matters, but curious if HGVC ever bumps you up to a higher point 2 bedroom

Starting at Silver, Max owners are eligible to request Complimentary Accommodation Upgrades 72 hours before check-in. I know higher level Legacy HGVC Elites are also eligible for upgrades but don't remember which levels.

I was upgraded from a standard phase 2 two bedroom to a plus phase 2 two bedroom last year, my only upgrade experience there as a long time legacy deed owner. No explanation, and I had 11 night stay checking in on a Sunday. We were put in a second floor end unit in building 25, as far from the reception as you can get, but it was nice and quiet with great sunset view off the lanai, and close to the BBQ.

Thanks, that is what I figured it’d be a long shot. We are there for 11 nights this summer too, you can really stretch your points with the cheaper 2 bedroom option. We’ve also been in the larger 2 bedroom phase 1 when we’ve stayed there but extra days are extra days!

This year I booked the plus unit, the STD BR2 are getting harder to book stays longer than a week. Still a smoking deal with gold season and the point discount promotion, $115 a night at my point cost with res fee. We add on 5 nights at Hokulani with the point discount to switch it up after the wide open space on the BI.
