Waikoloa,Hawaii

Which is a better resort to stay at The Bay Club or Kings Land?
It depends. If you have family and particularly kids that are 12 and under, you can't beat the super pool. We don't own HGVC and I've considered buying many, many times just for Kingsland.

The units at the Bay Club are larger and it's much more quiet. I think an adult couple would likely enjoy Bay Club more. The units are also closer to shopping and the beach (not a great beach, but I think it's fine).

Thanks. The interest is more in touring and restaurants. Just going with another adult no kids. Do I need to rent a car or is there easy transportation from the airport and shopping?

You will definitely need a rental car as you will be driving quite a bit. Before moving here permanently 20 years ago, we stayed at Bay Club (King's Land was not built, just empty land at the time). Bay Club was built as condos before becoming a timeshare and the units are large. The only advantage for King's Land is the access to the Hilton Resort property.

Is the Hilton Resort property within walking distance from Bay Club. Just interested in going to see it as it has been many years since last there.

Yes, The bay Club is quite close the the Hilton hotel, some units are essentially across the street from the hotel. The other other HGV resort are slightly farther but may be walkable depending on your energy level. We usually drive or take the free shuttle from Kings Land, but plenty of people on this board walk from Kings Land. All of the property's are spread out, so it may also depend on which building your assigned, and where at the hotel you are headed. for the Hotel, you could easily spend 20 or more minutes walking from one part to another.

If you are a pool family then pick KingsLand. If you want more room and a quieter resort, pick Bay Club.

Car is recommended.

Another bonus for Bay Club is the lower points required, you can stay longer

phase 2 and some phase 3 are the same point value as BC.

Beach? I didn't think there were any sandy beaches? Just looks like a bunch of lava rocks next to the water.

For a sandy beach you will need to drive. There’s one just a couple minutes away… parking adjacent to the Kings/Queens shops.

Then there is the state park beach just up the road.

Just ended a week at the Bay Club. Loved it. Giant unit with an insanely huge patio.

We own at the Kohala Suites which is next door and nearly the same property - been going for several years now. The units are all similar, but the Kohala units are a bit smaller. Combined there are three pools, 2 of which have a bar with food. These aren’t mega pools, but they are adequate and rarely fully occupied. You have access to all three, regardless of staying at Bay Club or Kohala. When at Kohala, you have access to the Hilton resort amenities (yes it is walkable) but you don’t get this at Bay Club. The resort amenities (more/bigger pools, snorkeling, spin class, etc.) is nice, but not a deal breaker.

Sometimes my wife and I like to go over to Kingsland for a drink at their bar. It’s nice over there, but nothing to sway us from our current ownership.

We are low key with adult kids, so staying at a condo style location vs. resort style is perfect for us. I’m kinda interested in picking up an EOY unit at Bay Club to complement my current ownership at Kohala Suites.

what is the advantage of BC over Kohala?

Mauna Lani, the next resort north has a black sand beach with decent snorkeling.

Hualalai resort to the south has excellent snorkeling with sandy beach, Kikaua Point.

The only two advantages I am aware of:

- bigger units by a couple hundred square feet (they seem slightly nicer, too)

- lower point value.

but Kohala has access to Hilton resort?

which ones have access to KL facilities?

We always go KL with kids but as they age out we'd be open to something quieter.

Nice but you have to drive to both of them. Correct? Looks like you can at least walk from the Marriott to the beach. I'm spoiled when I go to Marriott at Ko Olina and Waiohai in they have nice beaches right next to the properties.

The better beaches on the Big Island are the ones you have to drive to. Hapuna Beach, or the beach at the Mauna Kea.

We have stayed at the Bay Club and Kohala Suites, all with RCI trades. Never traded into Kingsland, it didn't really appeal to us as we're not big pool people. We like a pool on site, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy. Access to the pools at the Hilton wasn't all that appealing either. We stayed one night at the Hilton, before there were timeshare units there. Our kid got kind of bored of the pools within a few hours, and they were very crowded.

Of the two properties we stayed in we preferred Bay Club as the units were larger. We really liked being on the first floor where our daughters could just walk out to the lawn to play there.

True, but you need a car anyway on BI. The A-Bay beach has no snorkeling, which is what I go to the beach for. The sand is not that great at A-Bay, lots of pulverized lava mixed in, it has a gray color. A-Bay is good to see turtles sunning on the beach south of Lava Lava.

We don't mind the drive.

I can see that. Seems like the Big Island is more laid back like Kauai. Although the scenery is very different between the two of them.

Yeah, I was referring to the beach near A bay...we've gone at least once every time we go to Waikoloa. It isn't great, but we have fun, and we find it easier than going to Hapuna.
