Vonage has an iphone and Android app that allows you to call or text other Vonage users for free. However, right now they have a limited time special that allows free calls to landline and mobile phones for free. (Not selling just passing it along.)

In essence, this does the same thing as Skype, but Skype charges for calls to landlines and mobile phones. We typically use Skype or Google Voice when traveling out of the country, but this provides another option for calling home via wifi.
