We're going to the Vista Mirage in April for our first trip to Palm Springs. Our main reason for going was the proximity to Joshua Tree park where my husband wanted to go. Are there any suggestions for either Vista Mirage or Joshua Tree? We're from CT and have only visited CA once for a vacation and that was in the San Diego area.

No suggestions off the top of my head....but the weather should be wonderful in PS in April. :)

I enjoyed palm springs. A great relaxing vacation. Vista Mirage is in a nice location, convenient to down town. Looks nice from the outside. All the resorts around there are older and are 1 or two story complexes.

I think this link/video covers most of what I could offer.

Have a great trip!

We too will be in Palm Springs in April. Our first time there was October and we were surprised how small it is. We were also surprised at how close it is to LA.

We went up the Tram, which was something to do but it wasn't that exciting to us. Went golfing and it was pretty nice as the weather was so great.

Then we drove into LA (not quite) and saw a drag race. That was fun, and next time we will go into LA for a couple day trips.

We also went into town for their Thursday night street mall? and had a good time looking at all the goods for sale from local artisans.

I love the weather!! And our resorts pool and proximity to LA. But being from Portland, I'm afraid there was little that the area of Palm springs really offers us.

But the weather is fabulous! Did I already say that?

Palm Springs things to do

We were in Palm Springs recently. Usually we go to Joshua Tree and love the hiking trails and the photo opportunities.
This year we took the tram to the top of San Jacinto and as always, it was beautiful. Take warm clothes when you go up there.
We had a great time on Saturday at the College of the Desert Flea Market on Saturdays and Sundays....it is in Palm Desert.
We love going to the Living Desert, also in Palm Desert and I would suggest you take the time to go there since you live out of state. The art museum in Palm Springs is very interesting, too.
If you like to hike, go to the Indian Canyons area south of Palm Springs.
You will be able to find lots of information on things to do in town and at your time share.

We find the Palm Springs area to be a perfect sized city. It's not too big but it's not a small town either, in that it has all the amenities of a big city without the traffic and other problems etc.

It's an easy day trip for us to go to PS from our home, but we often spend a night or two just to get away. It is easy to do day trips to LA area, if that's what a person is interested in. The drive is about a couple of hours.

I know I am one of the few here on TUG that enjoys PS in the summer, for the heat and the lack of people being there off season. But again I know I am in the minority here on that issue :D But I know Spring and Fall are really really nice times of year, with almost perfect weather. :)

We live just an hour away from Palm Springs and frequently visit there for 2-3 night get-aways. We have stayed at the Vista Mirage on bonus time. The units are all large 2BR units. It reminds me more of an apartment than timeshare. The resort is gated. It is a nice place and clean. Normally we stay at the Hyatt Regency Suites because of the amenities and location. The reason we picked the Vista Mirage is we needed the 2 BR as we took our adult kids with us.

April is a great month to go. The weather should be very good. There are lots of things to do in the area. It all depends on your preferences. We are not museum buffs though we have seen them all and others have covered them. I strongly recommend the Tram and the Palm Springs Follies. Below is the Palm Springs Follies web site:

If you like casinos, there is a very good one called the Spa that is just a few blocks away from the Vista Mirage. There are 6 casinos in the Palm Springs/Indio area. Some are very large. We like to go to the open Market on Thursday evening. Take a drive down S. Palm Canyon Drive and you will come to an oasis that you can walk through. It is very nice. I am assuming it is still there as we haven't visited it in a few years.

The Palm Springs Air Museum is nice if you like vintage airplanes. Palm Desert is a great place for shoppingand dining. There is also the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is worth a visit. There is an Imax in Cathedral City. Mexico is possible as a long day trip. The LA area is a long day trip including Universal Studios. Big Bear Lake is a long day trip, but I don't know if they will have snow when you are there.

We went to the Spa Casino one night just to listen to the live music in the casino bar.

We do 2 weeks in PS every year in March. The weather is always great. We enjoy the town for people watching. Beware of drivers talking on their cell phones. It seems like they all are. You'll find lots of great dining options. Check out the PS Follies. Always a fun night.
