Can someone who either owns or has been to Villamoura advise if this is a walkable place to get groceries, get around etc? Or should we have a car? we are staying 4 nights currently maybe 5. Thank you.

I high recommend getting a car. It is about 30 minutes walking from the port where all the restaurants are. Beach is a bit further. Smaller supermarkets are closer, but the larger ones were further. Except for the pool, there is not much at the hotel. The area is too nice to not have a car to explore. Car rental in Portugal is cheap.

One listing I looked at showed 10-15 years of usage before it ended (I think I recall this). I would see what I was buying and for how long. Not sure it would work for me, so I moved on.

It reminded me of some Mexico deals. You add the $1,500 in annual maintenance fees, plus the annual loss of value of your purchase price and it ceases to be a “deal.”

Advice falls back to know what you are buying and why.

PS- My wife would love to buy in the Algarve if it makes sense. Please keep us posted.

We were there for 5 days last May. Although we had a car, we Uber'd to the port where the nicer restaurants were. The higher end restaurant in the hotel was surprisingly good. We did use our car to do day trips both the east and west and had private guides for some local tours. The pool was beautiful. We didn't buy any groceries except some wine we bought at the port. The hotel does have a shuttle running to the port but you must be on their timeframe. So we preferred an Uber. We enjoyed our stay.
