We're planning a week there next September and are not planning on renting a car (Paris by train, Disneyland by shuttle). We also want to do a couple of day trips to Versailles or Normandy maybe. Has anyone done a private or group tour from there with a driver? If so, what was your experience and what company did you use?

I've used "getyourguide" a number of times and have always been pleased. Airbnb "experiences" also has some good ideas. When I visited Versailles, many years ago, we took the train there and rented an audio guide for a few dollars. It was our first European trip, we are from Southern California (we don't know how to ride trains....)and we had no problem getting there. I also use Rick Steves' travel guides. You can buy one and take it with you, or do research on his website before you go for free. He's a great resource. A good train travel resource is seat61.com. Planning the trip is my favorite part. Good Luck.

Having stayed in Normandy and Paris it is a long drive from Villages d'lle-de-France to Normandy. We did a week in Normandy and did day trips all over Normandy - Bayeux, Honfleur, Rouen, Giverny, etc. Then a week in Paris.

I have had great experiences with Tours by Locals.

Anything is possible, I guess?
Normandy would be a 9+ hour minimum return drive though!
There are plenty of very interesting places to visit much more locally, such as Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte, Provins, a Champagne House…

LOL - fair enough so we'll just write that one off. :)

As other have said, Versailles: easy to do by train; Normandy: rent a car for a couple of days and drive yourself. We also went to Mont Saint-Michel and it was the highlight of our side trips. Loire Valley is also drivable.
