We’ve only been to Vidanta NV one time, and stayed at GL. Pool days were at GL pools. Next month we are going back, but staying in a GB 2 BR because my daughter, her husband and their 3 little ones are coming in Wednesday to Wednesday. (We will have a few days pre and post visit to prepare and recover). It looks like from the map that the GB building is fairly close to water activities.

Question, where’s the best place to set up for pool and beach? They will want to do slides, waves, and lazy river, besides the beach. I only walked over through that area once on our previous visit. Can you rent a cabana? How and where, and what’s the deal, order enough food etc, to cover it? Sign up at 6:00 am? Four adults and three little ones (5-1 yrs old). Just curious. I realize this is pretty specific, but I don’t want to spend two or three days trying to figure it out on my own, if I can avoid it.
Also, does NV have a more casual dining area with entertainment like Salum at RM?
Thx.

Hi MoPops,
We were at the Mayan Palace NV building in November - so I will try to give feedback that might help your planning . The Grand Bliss is very centrally located .

1) specific to the pool - the really fun ,for kids stuff is at the Grand Mayan pool area .There is a kids club as well . The (awesome) kids splash pool with slides is near the beach front casual restaurant Ola Mulata.

The Grand Bliss & Mayan Palace pools are both ocean front - if, an easy walk to use the beach matters to you. The Mayan Palace pool is quite large and therefore has more “seating” - relative to the number of MP guests .

2) Make sure you show your grand kids the baby turtle egg sanctuary that is on the beach , just to the right of the Grand Mayan area .
There are scheduled releases after 5 pm and a kid friendly talk is done by the sanctuary staff.
( we saw it in Feb.- 2 years ago / I assume Jan is similar)

3) You may wish to take a shuttle to the pool with a 1 year old . My wife has a knee that is heading towards replacement (other one was already done) We walked to the Mayan Palace pool once and it was about 400 yds using the very nice winding walkways . After that one walk , we would ask for a (personal) shuttle from the person who handles this at the building entrance . It was never a problem and usually was less than a 5-10 minute wait . Often we were taken by a bell person in a smaller golf cart ; sometimes it was a bigger shuttle that was taking others to the pools / or beach.

4) Food -
there is a very nice Saturday(8am-2pm or so) Farmers Market behind the OXXO that is 100 yds from Vidanta’s Sea Garden property .You can get there by walking the beach or taking a taxi. The taxi was 110 pesos I believe . The Vidanta taxi stand person gives you a slip with the amount needed.
If you walk over - taking a taxi back is easy & you can always go to the Sea Garden to get one if none are in the immediate vicinity .

The Farmers Market has vegetables ; fruit , a cheese guy and other local vendors including those selling non food items . You can pay with USD but pesos are probably better . There is a secure Santander money machine in the Sea Garden’s mini market store (should you run out of pesos - like I did) The stand that makes blue corn tortillas in front of you & sells tacos is worth a lunch stop IMO. It is a very nice family business.

If you go to the Farmers Market I would then pick up some basics at OXXO - their prices on a lot of things are very close to what you pay at Mega or Walmart - because Mexican locals shop for daily stuff at OXXO . Milk, tortillas , eggs , chips ,pop , beer ,limes , cooking oil , small sizes of breakfast cereal , orange juice etc..

La Plaza is a very short walk from the Grand Bliss. The food court /stores there have everything you need if you prefer not to go off resort . We found some items pricey and others comparable (if you amortize for convenience & taxi costs) to other stores.
Strawberry Jam from France was 3 times what we pay in Canada ( same jam/same container -(did not buy) , Mexican Crackers (Lara-Saladas Classico’s) were the same as Oxxo ; Milk & ground coffee * were a little, higher.
The bakery has amazing Pain au Chocolat. The frozen yougert stand is worth it .

Within the La Plaza building are 2 casual restaurants . Sweet Paris Creperie & Tacos Break
We had “brunch” at the crepe place - since it has egg & sausage crepes and you can eat on the outdoor deck We had dinner at the Taco place and it has outdoor seating with a view of the GL buildings and lit golf course .There was some musical entertainment that evening.

Santuario has evening entertainment and casual finger food & drinks can be ordered . There are lounge seating places where all of your family could relax ,that are further from the “stage area “but you can still hear the entertainers and view them on video screens if not directly .

We ate outdoor sit-down evening dinners at Havana Moon & Ameca Social House - both had good food & good views . We also ate lunch & at least one dinner poolside ; since we had the 45th anniversary promo / credit towards the resort restaurants.

If you have an interest - book yourself on the “ back of the house tour “ - there is a recent Mexican Forum thread on it .

* - coffee filters
I like to make early morning coffee and drink it while others are still sleeping .
Mayan Palace & Sea Garden have not provided any coffee filters for a number of years . (perhaps higher Vidanta brand ownerships get coffee filters.)

You can buy a box of 50+filters at La Plaza for about $5 . (I bring my own filters) & I pack a small brick of vacuum packed store coffee from home . That coffee lasts a few days & this trip I bought enough coffee for the rest of the week at La Plaza.

You can book the free inbound airport to resort transportation for yourself . You can also book it for your daughter‘s family for their Weds arrival.

Enjoy the family time .

There are quite a few round Palapas on the beach. We usually choose the ones near the Ola Mulata because they are near the restaurant, kids area, and a restroom. There are some Palapa beds near the wave pool and kids area. You do not have to reserve them, they are are first come first served. Generally families snag these fairly early for a base. Grand Bliss is nice and is in between the GM and MP/La Plaza and very close to Santuario. You family will enjoy it.

Thank you! We’ve been taking coffee and filters for a few years, even to GL. Your reviews of the restaurants are very helpful, and we will follow it.
Finding a spot by the pool or beach will probably be trial and error. Tough problem to live with. Ha!

Last week the GB pool area was practically empty. Entire rows of lounge chairs were vacant-you could easily get a group of seven chairs together. The pool was almost empty as well because the water was COLD! Every day we walked past the GM pool it was very busy and noisy-lots of kids having fun and lots going on. The restaurant at the GB pool (Chiringuito?) was very good as was Ola Mulata-similar menus. Lots of seating on the beach as well but it seemed to get crowded out there fairly early.

Grand Bliss was very nice-but very noisy! Lots of construction happening now. Lots of detours and closed pathways so be prepared to walk. Have a great time!

Chiringuito is one of my favorites too! We loved the Paella.

Several years ago we made friends with Wendy on the Joy Squad who has moved up to be the pool manager. There is heat for the pools and they will turn it up if they get enough feedback that it's too cold. We've usually managed to find her around the GL palapas by beach near Havana Moon last trip; it's worth getting to know the folks down there on the hotel side that can help you get stuff fixed. Wendy dealt with some housekeeping issues for us that we couldn't get our concierge to fix one trip; some people just have the right connections and communication ability, I guess.

Thanks, Eric-good to know! It was my first stay in NV but I will definitely return. It never occurred to me the pools may be heated in such a warm area!

Not to hijack this thread-but sincere appreciation to you, Phyllis, T-Dot, and all the others that have provided Vidanta information on these boards. It was a big help to us on our trip. Thank you all!

Well, I’m sorry to hear about the construction and walking. Five year olds can only walk so far. Good news about room by the pool though. It’s really going to be different for us, as we are used to looking for peace and quiet. Now we will be in loud and busy.. Might try for beach and go from there.

That’s another thing we aren’t familiar with, The Joy Squad.. What do they do? I’ll read up on it.
Edit, we know RM pretty well as we’ve made many trips there, but just once to NV and that was a few years ago. Lots to learn.

Thx

Just take the shuttles and if necessary request a “personal” shuttle from the staff person who does this at the Grand Bliss driveway . Also - the shuttle driver generally gets out at each stop to make sure everyone is safely situated .This seems to be standard protocol .

There are over 600 electric vehicles on the resort - so you should not have a problem .

Joy Squad are the folks that run the activities, mostly by the pools (card games, Spanish lessons, etc.). They also do internal resort tours like the Back of the House one and the Turtle Hatchery, etc. (Vidanta also has biologists, or something like that running the Turtle Hatchery, but Joy Squad takes people there for tours.)
