Vidanta converting Mayan Palace RM?

Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered, but I couldn't find anything via search.

I thought I had heard rumors that Vidanta planned on converting Buildings 1-10 of the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya into Grand Bliss (?) units. Has anybody else heard this? Am I imagining things?

We bought 12 years ago because we loved the location, etc, and so far we haven't even visited another MP. (But that's another story).

I'm wondering if this is actually true, if this would be considered a breach of contract. I'm certainly not well versed in law, especially Mexican law, but it seems as if we could no longer vacation where we originally purchased, there'd be grounds to void the contract.

Anybody else know anything? Thanks!

Tom

When we were in Nuevo a few weeks ago, the salesman said those were going to be torn down and more Grand Luxxe buildings would be built in that area. Who knows - it changes all the time and could change again. With as many GL owners as they have now and so few units at RM, it makes sense. At one time they were going to take out the water park in Acapulco and put on GL building there and a Grand Bliss on the north side of the property where the old one bedroom MP units were. I never could understand that plan - GL would block the view from the Grand Mayan. Grand Bliss is really nice, but they seemed to have skipped right over it and gone GL big time. I have not heard an Acapulco plan recently.

They still have lots of MP units at RM, nothing in your contract guarantees where on their property the units are - just that you will have a MP. You just have the right to use a unit at any of the MP resorts, not any specific one or set of buildings. In NV, the MP is down to 1/2 of a building and there used to be 7. In Acapulco, they built a brand new MP in 2010 and I was there in January 2011. It is really nice, but not on the ocean. They have shuttles to take you to the GM and you use the beach there. They have however, built a new MP building that also has some GM units in it where the old 2-bedroom building was. It took about 6 years for them to build that one - it just opened this year.

I agree, even if they took out MP 1-10, there is still MP 11-21 at the RM site.
Even as an owner, I never get MP 1-8, so no big loss, but getting 18-21 would be way out there, as is getting GM 11-13.

I don't think that MP 1-10 space would be made into Grand Bliss. As Phyllis states, lots more Grand Luxxe have been sold. If they do knock down MP 1-10, that would create quite a mess for a long period of time.

One thing you can be sure of: Never ending changes at Vidanta properties.

Sad to hear it if true, but I agree it's doubtful they'd rebuild with GB, with all those new GL owners out there.

I'm thinking I may be lucky to get a room in the laundry building for the next reservation. :D

There is some positive if they take out buildings 1-10: We'd be closer to the road for an easier exit.

I guess I forgot about buildings 11-21! So far, in 12 years of visiting MPRM, we've only once been put in the jungle! In fact, last summer we got three suites (big family reunion) in building 1.

They also have a bunch of MP buildings on the other side of the lazy river that has yet to be opened. Those buildings are often referred to as future Bliss units also. There are at least 7, but looks like 11 on Google Earth. I think the 4 that are closer to the road could be Ocean Breeze units. They are also close to the lazy river.

A few years ago, we had to return because of flight cancellations and stayed at the Ocean Breeze which had just opened. It was a new building had just opened that week, and not part of the unfinished MP buildings, but close to them. They might have extended the OB since that time (?).

I copied Google Earth picture that was taken 3-24-2014. It looks like there are 11 unfinished buildings if Ocean Breeze is the one by itself closer to the highway. If that one is not the OB, then maybe the 4 with whiter roofs are.

Thread Hijack!

OK, I'm hijacking my own thread. :)

Seeing these latest Google Earth images (thanks, Phyllis!!), I didn't know MPRM was developing a lazy river out there. Is there any official word whether it is, or will be open? Is it just another aborted attrraction?

Ocean Breeze is the one by itself closer to the highway. It was a single building and had a small pool. It might have expanded since we stayed there(?).

Those 11 MP buildings and the lazy river were abandoned when Vidanta went for Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe a few years ago.
If you ever get a chance to see the small scale models that are in (or were in) the sales areas, it shows that all those buildings were planned as a huge MP complex.

model of MP for RM

https://mayanpalacemodelforrm.shutterfly.com/pictures#n_5

In this photo I took of the model of what the Mayan Palace was supposed to look like, you can see the existing 21 MP buildings, as well as the never completed lazy river and the 11 unfinished MP buildings still visible in Phyllis' google map photo. In addition are the 3 MP buildings just past the MP check in building which are to be Bliss buildings.

Phyllis, the Ocean Breeze was built where in the model's lower left corner is shown a clump of trees.

What is a shame is that all the buildings and lazy river were almost completed and then shelved for the new business model.

Yes! When Hurricane Wilma came through in late October 2005, the 3 current Bliss buildings were just about finished and those 11 buildings and the lazy river were just under construction. There were only the 7 GM buildings. In 2007 when we were there, all 14 buildings looked like they were just about ready to go. Same with the lazy river. They finally did open at least one of the 3 as a Bliss last year.

We have not been back since 2007. Now they have more GM and 4 GL buildings. We like going there and hope to go in 2015 or 2016.

If and when you go to the GL in RM, you will notice a very different feel from the GL in NV. While the units are the same, in RM the GL feels very closed in. Besides being only 3 floors, as all the other levels, when on your deck all you can see is vegetation. You cannot see the other buildings from the one you are staying in. It's not bad, just very different from the open views that you get from the GL (and other levels) in NV. I prefer the NV complex, but the RM complex for us is a much shorter trip.

Thanks for the info. When we go, we will most likely spilt our 2 bedroom into 2 weeks. We know that at RM all the buildings are only 3 stories, so no view. But the pool is awesome and when I have enough sun for the day, I love sitting on the deck reading while sipping my beverage of choice. We have stayed at the MP multiple times and the GM 2 or 3 times. At GM if you get buildings 1-7 on the inside units, you do get a chance to see the ocean. The MP pool is great and now that they have the new beachfront GB pool, GL folks can get an awesome ocean view while hanging out at the pool. I do like the Riviera Maya location and love taking a few trips into Playa and maybe the ferry to Cozumel.

We are pretty low key but do like seeing and hearing the ocean. That is why we love our Buganvilias Sky Suites and even the not so glamorous Punta Pacifico (aka La Jolla) in Mazatlan. At both of those, we move the sofa so that we can look out at the ocean when sitting on it and open the sliders all the way most of the day.
