Vegas Next Week

Make sure that you always carry a bottle of water with you (and drink from it often) when you are here. By the time you feel thirsty you will be on the road to dehydration.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for the advice, I'll be spending the hot part of the day well away from the sun...no lazing by the pool for me! :) I'm planning to take the tour of the MGC to see how it's coming along...and for the points if there are any on offer.

I don't know what your definition of the hot part of the day is, but hope you are prepared. The low today was 89º. Even thought it is suppose to cool down a bit in the next few, don't see it (the high) going much lower than 105º and the low much lower than 80º+/-

But you know what they say, "Its a dry heat."

Hi, I am not sure where you are stayin gin Vegas. Would you mind checking out these two resorts for us, and please let us know which one you would recommend. We are planning to be there in early April 2008, and would love a resort with pool.

My lowly week pulls these resorts all the time, so we may stay at one of these places for a few days, rather than staying at the Marriott or Fairfield.

Grandview at Las Vegas (#6923)
Las Vegas, NV 89123, USA
9940 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas , NV , 89123 USA
702/966-4700

Summer Bay Resort Las Vegas (#0110)
Las Vegas, NV 89109, USA
100 Winnick Ave.
Las Vegas , NV , 89109 USA
702/731-6100

Thanks!

I have not been to either one of these resorts so take what I say with a grain or more of salt...

It's my understanding that Grandview is a fair ways south of the main strip and is somewhat isolated from the "action". My understanding is it's a fairly nice property and there is a casino with a restaurant across the street. The main complaint I've heard is the walls can be a little thin. If you stay here you'd want a car.

Summer Bay generally gets good reviews. I've had a couple of friends stay there and they were very happy. From the looks and what I can tell, they are converted apartments which sit a block or so from the main strip hotels near Flamingo, Imperial Palace and Venician...or at least in that region. They are sort of removed from these by the hotel parking garages and the monorail. From the looks of it from the monorail they don't look too attractive...but the impression I get from others is they are actually nice.

Take that for what it's worth...none of which is first hand knowledge.

I've never stayed at either resort either but would never stay at the Grandview. Summer Bay is pretty much in the thick of the action which is a must when I go to Vegas.

JMHO.

Thank you!

Thank you both, for your response. Both of these resorts seem to have last minute availability, so I will wait for a last minute reservation if I can't get into the Grand Desert or one of the Hilton properties.

I don't mind being away from the "Strip", as long as I have a clean and family-friendly resort with a nice large pool.

Which one of these (Grand View & Summer Bay) has the better pool?

If you haven't already...check out the review section for better info.

I was looking at Grandview when I was VERY new and saw units on EBAY for nearly nothing. The "pictures" (artist renderings) had a very nice looking pool area.

Summer Bay is interesting in that the units are clustered in several buildings and there is a pool in the center of 4 buildings. So there are several smaller pools for each cluster of buildings.

Again, no first hand experience here.

If you are going to go swimming in April you need to call and find out if Grandview's pool is heated. Summer Bay has many pools, but few of them are heated. The main one is, and the one by the Plaza section, but not many of the others...and it would be far too cold to go in an unheated pool in April. In fact, since all the pools are outdoors, it would be far too cool for me at any of them. Summer Bay has hot tubs and sauna as well.

Docklander,

I would love for you to stop at Polo Towers and ask customer service and/or the front desk staff how the renovations are coming along.

Clue

For anyone that is interested, I went into Polo Towers today and saw a lady who's title was Vice-President (of something) who said that the suite renovations would be commencing late August and would carry on for (and I quote) 9, 10 or 11 months. They will be starting from the top and working their way down.

I also took the tour of the MGC and was happy with the quality of the rooms, furnishings etc.. The views (for the time being) from the 3 beds are pretty good and the units are truly large. Naturally I didn't buy anything!

On moment of comedy occured when I admitted to having bought my first TS from Marriott and buying subsequent ones on the resale market. The manager I was talking to at the time feigned surprise and commented that he was used to people buying resale first and then, realising the error of their ways, going back to buying from Marriott but he hadn't ever heard of people buying first from marriott and then going to the resale market! It took a lot of self control not to roll around laughing!

We stayed at Grandview in June. They have two pools. Everyone said the one pool was very cold but the 2nd one we used was just right so I assume it was heated. I have pics of the unit. We had 2 bedrooms - both side are identical:

Docklander,
You've hit wonderful weather, as long as the winds stay down. Enjoy your visit!

He might actually have been serious. I've heard a lot of strange things come out of TS salespeople mouths that I think they really believe.

One of the better ones occured at MGC. We were riding up in the elevator with a sales rep who had a couple with him. They were looking at the picture on the wall of the elevator and the sales rep commented that was the view from the 38th floor bar. The view in the picture is looking from the north to the south and is actually taken from an angle that looks like the top of the Stratosphere Tower. It took some degree of control not to bust out laughing when he made his comment. If the people on the tour with him knew anything about Vegas he probably lost any hope of a sale with that comment.

You are so right! The heat is fantastic, I went outside at 6:30am this morning and it was already 86 according to the tv guy! 107 by noon and apparently 113 by 5pm (although I have yet to work out how 5pm can be hotter than noon/1pm).

I was talking to a couple of guys who had just done the PH TS presentation and they couldn't say enough bad things about it. Apparently it was very high pressure and they left with the idea that it was like trying to buy a used car! The price fluctuated all over the place depending on what questions they were asking, they rep was even trying to pressure one of them to finance at 17% even though he can apparently get 6% because he's in the army. They said that the final price offered to them for a 2 bed was $40k!
Personally I wouldn't touch the place with a disinfected stick!

Getting a car on Sunday so will check out the other 2 timeshares people asked about then.
