Vegas Christmas lights [2006 thread]

This question is probably for Fern, but someone else may be able to answer it also.

Where is the park (?) in Vegas that has lots of Christmas lights?
What is the fee to see these lights?

You asked for it, you've got it!

I know you must mean Sunset Park's Gift of Lights display. Its at Sunset Park, on Eastern Avenue between Sunset and Warm Springs (directions below). There are over 8 million lights this year, and the displays are stupendous. My girlfriends and I loaded the van and did "a girlfriend trip" to see them last week. Its good no matter how cold it might get, since you stay in the car. The cost is $12., or $10. with a donation of clothes to Salvation Army.

Directions:

From Center Strip (HGVC, Fairfield, Summer Bay, Carriage House, etc): East on Flamingo or Tropicana to Eastern, Right on Eastern. Gio across Sunset, then park entrance will be on your left.

From South Strip (WorldMark, Grandview, Cancun, etc.) Go east on Windmill or Warm Springs (just North of the Outlet Mall) to Eastern, Left on Eastern to park entrance on your right.

From the West (Cliffs at Peace Canyon, Club de Soileil, etc) go South to the 215 Beltway, take the Beltway East to Windmill. Turn Left on Windmill, then Left on Eastern and the park will be on your right once you cross Warm Springs.

When you leave the park you will be sent out North on Eastern Avenue.

If you need other directions, feel free to email me. If you're going to be in town its worth the trip!

I think there is also another place where the lights are bright that helps "special" kids. I can't remember the name but they have a concert every year . Something village? shaggy

Shaggy is talking about Opportunity Village's Magical Forest. It comes with high praise, but I've never been there so I really can't add to it. It *is* an outside walking thing, though, as opposed to Sunset Park.

Fern, I knew you'd know. That's it. I would like to go there because I like to support special ed causes. They finally quit sending me solicitations for money after about 5 years because I went to the concert. shaggy

Unfortunately, we were unable to do the drive-through light display at Sunset Park. Baby had immunizations and wasn't feeling good, so we stayed in at night. It definitely was wintery feeling in Vegas ... and the next morning... snow!

Was the baby well enough to enjoy the snow? I sure hope so. I didn't see snow till I was about 7 years old...the Brownies took us "inner city" under privileged girls on a "snow trip" every year. We didn't have snow clothes, so we wore 2 of everything, and we used cardboard boxes or garbage can lids for sleds. We had a ball.

<<Was the baby well enough to enjoy the snow>.
We were able to get the baby (age 2 months) out to see the snow. Actually, we got him out in the snow, to take pix to send to his Daddy, who is in Iraq.

flying to vegas tomorrow morning :D
This thread from 2006 was pulled up by a spammer, but if you are interested in the Christmas lights that used to be in Sunset Park, they have moved to the Las Vegas Speedway. Here is some info about that display and some other stuff you might be interested in.
