Vail vs. Breckenridge in Summer

We need to attend a wedding in Colorado in late July and we're considering combining that trip with a stay at one of the Marriott timeshare properties in Colorado, either Streamside in Vail or Mountain Valley in Breckenridge.

Breckenridge is a little closer to the wedding site (in Colorado Springs), but we'll probably schedule our trip so that the wedding is the day before we check-in or the day after we check-out (to avoid traveling back and forth).

I understand that Breckenridge offers only one bedroom units (which would be workable, but not our preference).

I'd appreciate any insights, comments or suggestions you have between in the two properties for a summer stay. Thanks!

Streamside is next to 1-70 however some of the units are in the back but still you are really in strip land and away from the action. What about the Marriott in Vail itself?

The Marriott in Breck is close to Main Street and other activities and places to eat, drink. Huge pool and nice views. I've friends --5 guys--there this week in a 1 BR. Plenty of room. The master with king bed is huge they say. Place was redone 2-3 years ago. I was there before the redo and it was very nice. Between the two it's a slam dunk IMO.

I have stayed in both and I would say that the Vail properties (Evergreen especially) are WAY better than Breckenridge. There is a shuttle that takes you to Vail village which is comperable to Breckenridge. Just my opinion.

Stay at the Ritz Carlton units in Vail.
Location is great and they have more than 1BR.

Another factor is that the altitude in Breckenridge is a lot higher than in Vail, so the air is thinner. That can be a problem for some people. I have not personally been to either property so I can't speak to that.

We will be using DC points for this stay, and I don't believe this property is part of the program. The Ritz Carlton is Aspen is in the program, but the "cost" in points is more than I want to spend.

The Ritz Carlton Club in Vail is indeed part of the DC program. It is actually part of the trust and has been for quite a while now.

Have stayed at Breckenridge and spent a day visiting Vail. If we went there again, it would be Breckenridge. Close to the activities and wouldn't have to rely on shuttle schedule.

Both of us did have "Altitude" issues the first couple days which surprised me as I've spent considerable time hiking and hunting at 6-7,000' elevation. The extra 3,000' made a big difference.

Brek is one of the best small towns in America, in my opinion. The resort is at the top of the street, a two minute walk from all the shops and restaurants. I stayed there for a week last year and was very happy with the room. Easily the largest one bedroom of all the Marriott properties I've stayed at with two bathrooms and a nice kitchen. Can't speak to the Vail villas although I'm sure they're very nice. You just aren't in the middle of the action like you are at Brek, and that's what makes it such a great place to stay. Ask for a mountain view room, upper floor.

Plus it's available based on the same Reservation Windows as the MVC resorts rather than the windows for the other Ritz-Carlton properties, because Vail was added to the Trust prior to the R-C's being defined as "Luxury Property."
