Hi, My friend and I leave for VV this Friday the 21st. We fly into Miami and rent a car to drive for the week. My airfare was cheaper to MIA than it would have been to FLL. I am flying RT for $198.60 out of ATL. We have tickets to see the King Tut exhibit on the last day, Sunday, then we might do a brunch/lunch somewhere right after that. Any suggestions for where? I have never toured the Everglades, I think that might be fun. We also plan to shop at Sawgrass Mills and of course get some suntime, perhaps at one of the pools with a drink or maybe a beach one day. I have been to VV at Weston, but never to VV at Bonaventure. I do not remember too many of the planned resort activities. Anyone know of any that would be good for two females in their 50's? Thanks in advance. Oh, also has anyone done any spa things at the spa nearby? Thanks, Sue

Have a great time and please do a review of your stay when you two return! We have been there once just to check it out before buying - but have never stayed there!

And...if at all possible, could you please try and obtain a map of the resort - building names and unit numbers? We get a fixed week, but get assigned floating unit numbers! I would love to be able to ask for a good unit for our next stay! Thanks!!! And again, have a great time!

It is in a good locations to commute to/from the beach, the Everglades, could take a day trip down to the Keys (if you don't mind the drive), not sure how long it would take to drive around the Everglades and head to the West coast, but that might be possible.

Well, here we are at Vacation village at Bonaventure.....using the 15 minutes timed computers.....it is nice to ahve this capability...if I had a laptop they told me that I could have connected in my own unit. I am on the 7th floor of the Heron 1 building...7th floor, unit a and B together....very nice and clean...goint to the unit now...I will check back, this is only the 1st night of my weeklong stay. Anyone else here this week? Maybe we could get a TUG gettogether this week if so. Sue

Hi Banker,
Please let us know anything you find out in the way of good places to go, food to eat, and anything that might help on our trip there at the end of June. You've already helped some by letting us know both about the 15 minutes of computer use and that we can use my son's friend's laptop in the unit. My wife and I are bringing my 16 year old son and his best friend and flying in from California.
Please let us know if there is anything special we should pack or plan on bringing. We first will spend a week at Orange Lake before driving here.
Thanks for all the help.
Bart

Interested we are flying to Ft. Lauderdale (cheaper air tickets thru South West) and renting a car to Miami. What rental company are using?
The cheapest so far for renting a mini-van is about $95.00 per day unlimited mileage/

We found Alamo to be the cheapest.

We ate at the La Bamba III (Mexican & Spanish) on N. Federal last night. Food & service was great It was crowded. We are at The Merriweather this week. Nice & clean, right across the street from ocean between Los Olas & Sebastian Blvds in Ft. Lauderdale. King Tut exhibit ends tonight at 10 PM.

Sue - did they provide you with maps of the Bonaventure resort? I'm curious about the number of buildings, their proximity to pools, their views, etc. Maybe when you get back you could scan and post a map? I'm excited to hear about your trip when you return! Thanks! Juli

We used Thrifty last time we went to Miami and found their rates very competitive.
Also I suggest comparing rates between airport and off-airport offices where sometimes the savings can be considerable specially around holidays.

We are back! The drive into Miami from Weston was actually not too bad...a little busy since it was morning rush hour. It took us an hour in rush hour traffic from Vacation Village to Royal Rent a Car, which is off site in Miami. Check out Royal for prices. I rented a compact for 119.95 per week plus fees, etc. When we got there they were out of compacts and instead they gave us a new Volvo S-80 for the same price. Leather seats, all power, sunroof, 4 door, etc. It drove nicely. Royal has offices both in Miami and Ft Lauderdale. I will scan a map or email a map to anyone who wants one of Vacation Village. It is a layout of the place, building locations. I could not find one of specific units, etc. We loved our 2 bedroom lockout at Vacation Village at Bonaventure. More later! Sue

What is the difference between vacation village at Weston and Bonaventure?

Age of the buildings (Bonaventure is older) and the unit layout is different. Otherwise they share the same property & amenities.

I just booked a flight on jetblue from oakland to FLL for $175 one way. Flights are NON-STOP which cuts travel time by a few hours! I read on the site that if you book within 14 days of travel time in/out of Florida, and have a companion, the rates are significantly less! Granted, I am on a red eye on the outbound but I'm fine with that.

Bart, it's something to consider if you haven't already booked flights... I tried Southwest, American and Continental, and the airfares were outrageous, even with a 14-day advance! Almost all flights had at least one stop with a long layover.

Banker, do you know if they have wi-fi at VV, or is it dialup in the rooms? I'm considering bringing a laptop when I'm there on the 21st.

We were at VV at Weston about two weeks ago. I believe the checkin papers said there was wi-fi in the pool area and maybe the lobby. There was also the computer room you could use with the previously mentioned 15 minute limit. I couldn't pick up any wi-fi in the room and used dial-up.

Both are in Weston but whereas the units at VV@W are generally clustered near the Weston Tennis Club, the units at VV@B are generally clustered nearer to the Bonaventure Golf Club.
