So, I have used the Surpass Q1 and Q4 $50 credit toward MFs and was able to to use a Q2 toward MFs even though they are not due but it would not allow me to do it again. I have heard that you can call CS and they can do it. I decided to try a Hilton Gift card and it worked for the credit.

https://www.buyhiltongiftcards.com/ . The $1.95 extra was the least expensive shipping option for the card.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I have an experiment in process related to buying points. Under Hilton's promo to purchase points and get double the normal amount, I bought $60 worth of points on my Surpass. $60 was the minimum amount to get the 100% bonus. That's 6000 Hilton Honors points, plus another 6000 for the promo. And then getting the basic credit for the spent on the card, it is a total of 12,180 Hilton Honors points.

I figured I was good with that purchase at that price as it is a wash, more or less, when I go to use them.

Now, I'm waiting to see if I get the $50 credit. The credit card transaction does list "POINTSHHONORSREWARDSSAN FRANCISCO CA" so we will see is that's enough "Hilton" to trigger it or not. I'll report back in a week or two.

That would be another good option, if it works. You will know in about 3 days.

In the past Hilton processed these charge through an outside company (i think points.com), so if that’s still the case it’s unlikely to generate a credit. What‘s the business name that appears for the charge?

That's what i was thinking, not sure why is handled this way, but almost all miles and points you purchase from hotels or airlines are handled by points.com...

Has anyone has success with this buying gift cards from Hawaiian or alaska airlines?

It doesn't work for the Resort Fee credit that is being discussed in this thread, but we have purchased AS GCs with Aspire for the airline credit and had it work.

Cheers.

We've got the Hilton Aspire, Surpass, and Business card. I figure we'll use 60-75% of the credits, but I'm not going to chase gift cards. I would maximize the benefit if I had fewer cards, but I would rather rust roll with these organically, which is still better than what these cards offered a year ago.

Does the $69 HGVC reservation fee count?

If one flies AS, there is no chasing to be done with GCs. They can simply be added to the Wallet and forgotten about until booking a flight. But it, wait 24 hours for it to be valid, add to account. Twice per quarter (we each have a card). Done.

Cheers.

I've only flown Alaska once, 20 years ago. However, we've recently ditched our Delta loyalty, and have steadily spending on the Alaska Business card (mostly earning 2X) since January. We will likely have MVP status next year. GCs added to the wallet is not a bad idea.

I haven't paid that in a while, since we are elite premier, so somebody else would need to answer. I suspect not but I don't know how it is billed

If it shows 14x HH it will

I've earned 14X on Aspire in the past. This will come in handy for 3rd quarter, where we've only got 1 Hilton Honors stay that isn't a free night reward. Using points and cash on the paid night, just below $50.

I don't believe it is correct that just because it shows 14X HH it will count. IIRC, we get 14X for W. 57th MFs, but it does not count for the Resort Credit.

Cheers.

Have you tried to convince Amex that it should be?

Nope. Since it's basically a scam anyway, we just use our Vegas strip and that one counts. Definitely don't want to highlight this too strongly, and certainly not try to make a case for something that does not comply with the rules.

Cheers.

Sorry I guess I should say if it’s a resort and it shows 14x it should return the credit.

Yes, the $50 credit works for the reservation fee

With the Business card, the $50 credit is for Hilton spend rather than Hilton resort spend. It works for MFs at The Quin and The District, which aren’t on the resort list, which the Aspire credit is limited to. I don’t have Surpass, so am not sure how its credit is set up.

My Maex Hilton business card is $60 spend a quarter. Are you referring to the Surpass card which is $50 spend quarterly?

Sorry, I meant the $60 spend.

It has been two weeks since I made the purchase and no credit has shown up. Based on that, I conclude that this isn't a viable way to use your quarterly Surpass card credit. Now to go look at other options....
