Using Points Before Deadline - Cancellation Turnaround Time

I have some points that expire at the end of JAN 2022. We are down to short strokes but have a current reservation at Resort XXX using some of those points for the 1st week of JAN that might end up cancelling. If I have an opportunity to make another reservation at Resort YYY that is "firmer," would it be possible to call and work with a VOA to swap out the current points securing XXX and use them for the YYY reservation?

I think technically it would be:
  • Cancel XXX
  • Points used for XXX go back into holding account
  • Use those points to reserve YYY
  • Go back and reserve same dates and accommodations at XXX using later expiring points.
What I don't want to do is use the later expiring points to reserve YYY and then end up canceling the XXX reservation and have to consume those points before JAN 31, 2022. Hope my intent is clear. If not, let me know what is unclear and I'll try to explain.
 
I do this all the time.
Easiest way is to do it online.

Find the reservation you want and get to the screen that has the [Hold & Browse] button.

Start a chat. When you get the agent, hit the [Hold & Browse] button. That starts the timer.
Explain to the person that you want to cancel a reservation so you can have the points to use on a reservation you are holding.
They will cancel and the points will go back.
Now go back to the held reservation and finish booking it with the points.
