Ive been doing a lot of research on marriot/westin traders. I have seen a few older post where people have said that you can not use a 1BR SDO to set up an OGS for a 2BR. Is this an old restriction or is this still true. I know it’s popular to buy the lock offs and get two exchanges. I would need to be able to set up OGS’s though for 2BR’s though.

You can request a 2 bedroom when setting up your OGS. I have done it with our one bedroom.

There is no restriction in using a 1BR to set up an OGS for a 2BR.
I did not know this either.

When you are setting up the search the size defaults to your unit size.
If you only want a 2BR, slide the size over from 1BR to 2.

If you are searching for resorts that only have 2 and 3 BRs it is not necessary but if it is a resort with lock offs, you need to specify smallest and largest units.

OK - but would you be more likely to get your exchange with a 2-bdm?

Sure. But if you are going off season, you will *probably* get what you want with a 1 bedroom SDO. If you need prime season, or a long lead time to plan your travel, then use the full 2 bedroom so that you will be at the front of the line to get an exchange. Keep in mind that someone with more trading power can jump ahead of you.

Another suggestion is to make use of the sightings board to see the history of II deposits and to use the sightings request thread to have more eyes on the search.

You have to "trick" the system though. You can't technically request a unit size with a higher sleeping capacity than your deposit. So if you have a Studio you won't be able to select more than 4 people traveling. However, you will get to a page where you can move the sliders to change the unit size. An upgrade fee will apply if confirmed to a larger unit than the deposit.

You can absolutely do this. I own three small 1 bedroom SDOs and routinely have OGS for a two bedroom. 90 % of my trades have been into 2 bedroom Marriotts or Sheratons.

Ski Dad. I’ve seen in your past post where you’ve gotten 2 BR Nanea with your SDO. Did you just do on OGS way far in advance with a wide date range for flexibility?

I have gotten prime season two bedroom weeks trading with my small 1 bedroom SDO. These peak weeks generally require an OGS.

I checked my Interval history regarding the Nanea trade. I confirmed a September exchange the previous October. I acquired it through an Eplus trade, so it would have been a manual search.

Per my name, I am an avid skier. Many of my trades are into prime ski season weeks at major ski resorts. Landing those generally requires an OGS at least 9 to 12 months in advance and casting a somewhat wide date range. I am not looking for school vacation weeks. I prefer to avoid these, but I was at Beaver Creek this year President's day week.
