We just bought a Wyndham timeshare off of ebay as my inlaws all have Wyndham timeshares and we are tired of mooching vacations off of them and having no say in where we go. We purchased 154,000 points at Seawatch in Myrtle Beach although we haven't actually received the deed yet.

My question - if we want to book a 2 bedroom in the summer of 2014, we need 206,000 points. If we were to make the reservation in 2013, can we use both our 2013 and 2014 points to ensure that we have enough points? Or can the 2013 points only be used for vacations taken in 2013?

Your 2013 points can only be used for current year, 2013. Use or bank with RCI or they expire!

However, can credit pool 2015 points for $39.00 and go for it!

Fine point, credit pool points do not have ARP.

thank you!!! That's exactly what I needed to know.

Since our points renew in July, we should have until the end of June 2014 to use our 2013 points, correct??

Your 2013 points have already expired June 30 2013. The points that expire in 2014 are your 2014 points. Good for travel now through June 30 2014.

when we purchased, we were told there were still 154,000 points still available for 2013. so this would only be possible if they had been pooled? or if they were mistaken and the points are actually for 2014 even though they were issued in July of 2013?

having points available in 2013 isn't a huge thing for us since we have already taken our vacation this year and we would just have to transfer them to RCI.

Its an understandable mistake to say that if you have points for travel during 2013, then these must be 2013 points

But wyndham files these points under the year that they expire. In your case 2014

I dont think you were cheated in any way. You thought that you had some points for travel in 2013, and you do. As Paco said, if you need more between now and next June, you can get to them using the points credit pool

To help me understand how points and credit pooled points work: Will the OP be able to combine the 154k points they pool from use year beginning July 2015 with the non-pooled 154k points they have available now that expire June of 2014 to make a reservation for travel through June 2014? In other words, can pooled & non-pooled points be combined for a reservation?

Yes and no. No in that only regular use year points (not pooled points or cancelled points) can be used for ARP reservations (13 months to 10 months+1 day out). The pooled points and regular points are segregated during this period. At 10 months, all points co-mingle and may be used together if needed. For most reservations, ARP is not necessary. Notable exceptions to this would likely include Seawatch in the summer.

The op cant get to the points from the use year that begins July 2015 (these are the 2016 points and will become available to pool Jan 2014

However the op can pool the 2015 points (identified as for travel between July 2014 and June 2015) and use them with the 2014 points.

So pretty much if we want to go to Seawatch in the summer, which we do, we need to purchase more points. and in order to get ARP with our points, they need to be more Seawatch points, correct?

Other Myrtle Beach resorts will actually also work, as they share ARP. At least, I know Ocean Blvd and the Cottages will work, since I used their combined points for ARP this summer at Seawatch. I'm not sure about Dye Villas or Towers on the Grove, or Westwinds (I vaguely remember reading that Westwinds was all/mostly sold as fixed weeks, which I think would impact the ARP situation).

This is true, but, with the exception of Westwinds, Seawatch has the lowest point requirements. Due to the higher points cost, it is sometimes possible to get Ocean Blvd in the summer early in the standard reservation window (10 months). But in order for the OP to have enough points to book the res, they would need to tap into pooled points.

I think what paxsarah is saying is that acquiring additional points from one of the other MB properties will give you the MB points needed for ARP. MB is, I believe, the only place where the properties all utilize the same code for ARP purposes.

Thank you!! we aren't opposed to buying more points (resale -its the only way we can afford it) but ultimately we would like to get ARP for MB. Knowing that we can do this through some of the other MB properties broadens our resale search a bit. In the meantime, we can just put off our MB vacation with the children until another year and continue our long weekends off season without the kids (thank goodness for grandparents!) with our points that we need to use before June of next year. Too bad for them.

Thank you all for your help!

Is there a place where I can find out which specific properties share ARP?

AFAIK, Seawatch, Ocean Blvd and The Cottages all share the same code for ARP purposes. I am not sure about Towers on the Grove or Dye Villas. For purposes of combining contract points for ARP, it would be safest to stay away from Westwinds because, as paxsarah pointed out, most of these units were originally sold as fixed weeks. Even when fixed weeks have been converted to points, the ARP privileges are limited to the underlying week, from what I understand.

Thank you! We will probably look for another resale in the fall as I expect there will be more for sale then for MB and I just wanted to make sure we were looking at the right properties.

I appreciate everyone's help.

Towers on the Grove has 11 month ARP, depending on contract, with the other Mrytle timeshares under a receiprical agreement.

You are correct but westwinds also has udi deeds which get the reciprocal arp.
By the way a current 49k contract on eBay will give the op the 203k points he needs for a 2 br if he combines with his 154k. The disadvantage of this is the higher maintain fee but IMO for such a small contract not a big deal...

I'm watching that item on eBay, but I'm not sure if it is the right one for us and that if I am patient something better will come along, especially since some other people have said that they aren't sure about Westwinds sharing ARP.

Per the legal description in ad this isn't a converted fixed week. Confirm before you buy but I'm fairly certain it will work for you. You'll probably get it for a song since IMO it's worthless without having another MB contract to combine with.

That's why I'm watching it, because it would be just enough to get the ARP I would need for the 2BR at Seawatch. And I agree that because It is such a small amount of points that most people are not going to be interested, plus it has a small closing/transfer fee. Unless someone from here tries to snag it from under me ha.

How could I confirm that this would work? Would this be confirmed by emailing the seller? I'm still not 100% sure that this will be the contract that I bid on, but as I said, I have been watching it, and if the price is right...

I would call wyndham 800 number and ask. If you search here someone once posted an email from Wyndham with the info.
I own a westwinds converted fixed week and seawatch points. I was told that that the UDI contracts can pool for ARP (but not converted fixed weeks).
Seller probably wont know but he is often here online. Also you can call him and make an offer he has it listed on website and hell sell it to you outside e-bay.

See post number 5 on the following link: http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196161

Westwinds is my favorate resort and I own two converted fixed weeks there. If the seller can produce the deed that matches the legal discription that this is a UDI contract, go for it. (a biased point of view from a owner).
