"Beginning July 9, 2009, you'll be able to pay for checked bags when you check in online – $15 for your first checked bag and $25 for your second. For customers who choose to pay for checked bags at the airport, there will be an additional $5 service fee..." [Emphasis Added] ~ 'Nuff said.

Thank you for the info

We're using USAir in August. $5 is $5! This will be the first flight having to pay for checked luggage. We just returned last week from vacation on AirTran. We purchased the tickets right before they instituted fees for the first checked bag.

Baggage fees

But when you fly them to Mexico you can't check in online, so I guess those people lose out on the $5

International checkin online

I have flown US Air and Delta to Mexico in the past six months and both allow for online check in. Just have your passport available when doing so.
