USA Canada boarder to remain closed

As an immigrant (legal one BTW) to the United States, I am all for immigration and I resent anyone who crosses the border illegally or remains in the United States illegally. What percentage do you think Canadians make up of the overall illegal population in the United States? Less than 2% of the foreign born population of the US is Canadian.

I am also a legal immigrant, naturalized citizen now. I bear no resentment toward illegal immigrants, maybe they have tried legal means but are blocked by quotas? Your resentment sounds selfish, I got mine, the hell with anybody else.

If you look at the history of the southern border people have migrated back and forth following agricultural work for hundreds of years, look at the braceros programs.

US has a sad history of discrimination in immigration policy, favoring white europeans over non-whites - south americans and asians. Look at the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.

Maybe the Statue of Liberty should be taken down, stop sending your tired, your poor, your huddled masses?

The southern border with Mexico IS CLOSED for non essential travel by DHS and it was just extended to Sept 21 just like the northern border with Canada.
<people entering under refugee status is a different category >

Let's use El Paso TX/ Juarez MX and Niagara Falls- Buffalo / Niagara Falls St Catherines

Both have a significant population that has family on the other side of the river .
One specific reason that added to cross border families is the cross border drinking age variations.

People crossed the border to go a bar / meet someone and get married. They will inevitably have grandparents , parents , cousins etc on the other side of the river.
Under the current USA border rules it is very likely that family visits have been impacted

Please, you've made your opinion known by stating, "This thread is about legal residents or citizens of Canada NOT being able to legally enter the USA at a land border for non essential travel", and I think it's best to respect that.

So the American way of life has been destroyed? You do realize that this trend of more crossings was well under way during the last administration and is always correlated with the economy. Seems we have done pretty well with our cheap food and landscaping. I thought this was about the Northern border. You do realize there are canadians illegally in this country too. Wonder why they are not perceived as dangerous and germ ridden.
Perhaps they are employed? Not looking for social assistance.????

Have to say I didn't move to Portugal illegally. I went through the legal process and yes it took time. What bothers me , is the generations of families that continue... illegal ? Ok.. after 15 yrs wouldn't it be beneficial to apply for legal residency? Cite the reasons why you haven't applied. I realize I'm simplying but still ...... It's a crime isn't it to be illegally . It bothers me too. Perhaps a different system needs to be put in place ? I don't know the answer.

Well, seems I could sling that nonsense around and throw it right back but, I'll save that. So, gather your minions and announce you're saving the planet. I'll wait patiently while you do. I understand your "agenda". You do understand that this "agenda" of yours includes thousands of illegal immigrants crossing the southern boarder, day in and day out, with any number bringing more Covid into the country? Of course you do.
Where did I say that.....points at head.

Hey - @WVBaker ,@bluehende

This thread is about legal residents or citizens of Canada NOT being able to legally enter the USA at a land border for non essential travel.

For the purposes of this specific post - I will only mention visiting family .

I am a duel citizen - born in Queens NY . My wife is a Canadian citizen. My 91 year old father lives in New York State.
Under the current USA border rules we cannot drive together across the border to go see him.

WHY ?
Interesting you did not call out post 2. That is right, the one right after op. That is the one that immediately blamed the southern border and derailed the thread with a talking point. It took exactly 1 post.

Perhaps they are employed? Not looking for social assistance.????
Another talking point.....however.....in the real world

MYTH #5: Undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes but still get benefits.
Facts: All immigrants (legal and undocumented) pay sales, property, and consumption
taxes; many undocumented immigrants also pay income taxes, even though they can’t
benefit from most federal and state local assistance programs.

If I may, let me take you back to this comment. "This thread is about legal residents or citizens of Canada NOT being able to legally enter the USA at a land border for non essential travel"

At least one of us is willing to consider this it seems. Keeping that in mind, should you wish to continue by all means do so. Understand though, you'll be doing it
without my participation. Knowing that please, ramble away.

Where did I say I haven’t applied? I am a naturalized US citizen, the term naturalized means I have applied and met all the requirements.

Sorry... I didn't imply that you did not apply for citizenship. I was not referring to you individually but people in general. I'm sorry you misunderstood what I was saying.
I'm aware of what naturalized means ! :) i am referring to my own situation.

Actually I do. I almost married one a number of years back. The reason they are not perceived as dangerous and germ ridden is simple. They aren't.

George

Maybe that one
But what about other Canadians in the US, they could dangerous and germ ridden - like Justin Bieber

Don't you think it would be better to be able to benefit from the programs by being legal?

If this would result in Bieber being deported, maybe there is a silver lining to this pandemic. :ROFLMAO:
