Has anyone upgraded their florida week into Costa Rica? We were given this option today which we would like to consider. We find it very difficult to get into Costa Rica and would love to own a week there so that a plus. The maintenance on the platinum week is only $2350 for 4000 pts. Maybe a bit over. Our gold grande vista week only gives us 2175 for $2000.

Has anyone been offered this. There was also a Easter week that elects for 5500 pts but the bottom line after they gave us the credit for the week was just to much at the moment

Not sure I've heard of an "upgrade" from one resort to another. Its common for them to offer a points trade-in type deal where you get "credit" for the week you are giving them against a new points purchase. Usually that amounts you paying to buy what you already have plus a few extra Club points so its MVC math at its finest.

If you do the comparison based on the extra points you would get its 1875 extra club points which you might be able to buy for $25-30k retail or $10-12k resale all in. If the week you were offered is less than $20k then you could convince yourself its worth it.

Its a tough call for that resort if that's where you want to go as there aren't many resale options and rentals appear to be expensive. Have you tried doing a request first with your GV week via II and seeing if that pulls something that you can use?

I would like to upgrade my silver week at Los Suenos to a Gold week but they always tell me they are sold out! šŸ˜•

You can only reserve your home week at your resort in your season. There are no upgrades.

A rep in Costa Rica. It can only be done with florida weeks. They said domestically you can only upgrade weeks into pts but there they can do a week in fl into a week in Costa Rica. I’ve never been offered a week into a week before so why I am asking

I was told it’s only florida weeks into Costa Rica. I was shown a slide show with how it worked. I did ask if we started with less of a season could we upgrade Costa Rica to a better season and was told no

We have and got it once but it was right after Covid and 4 days with points on a waitlist. I like the guarenteed hole resort plus an extra 2000 pts for almost the same maintenance fee. Maintenance is always our issue. I’ll pay alittle more upfront but if I buy pts resale or not there is just more maintenance. This was the only thing we have been offered that made me think

I was offered a couple different weeks but nothing with my sf week. So must be just Fla weeks like they said

Maybe someone else can explain this to me. Is this just a sales pitch? What does upgrade even mean?

Yes, it's a sales pitch. Think of it as an equity trade in offer. They take your week back and give you a $ credit for it toward the purchase of the other week in Costa Rica. They do this all the time in the USA but you buy points instead.

It does sound like its something worth pressing to negotiate to see just how low you can get them. The whole trade-in thing is just fluff. They don't care about doing that beyond it being a lure to get your to think its a deal. If you wanted to offload GV and get a Los Suenos week that was enrolled, it probably a clean way to do that. I think all the units are 2-bed lock-offs so that's a good thing too.

It could take a while for them to get to the point where there is a decent deal, so in the interim, try doing a request first via Interval International using your GV week and see how that goes (if you haven't already). You might also be able to get Encore reservations to get you stays back there and add days using Bonvoy.

The up front direct purchase price could cost $3-5k per year over 5 years so there is a lot you can do with that sort of money instead.

They are simply trying to take your Florida week and sell you a week at Los Suenos for a price. You have to decide if buy price is worth it to you. "Upgrade" is marketing terminology.

Well I guess using what we paid for the week to offset the cost. We had a second week but was bout in a bundle for 10k and the plainly said it made no sense. Out other weeks was bought in 2007 for $24,000 so it was much better

Is this being offered by a MVC sales person? Is there an additional cost to make this upgrade? An even exchange is unheard of at a MVC resort and I would be skeptical, especially for an outside US transaction.

No of course not an even trade. Nothing is free at Marriott! We enquired about a package to go to Costa Rica which they said they did not offer. They only sell the weeks from Costa Rica. I asked for the cost of the week and then when I told them it was to much at age it was offered to trade in our grande vista gold week. The maintenance on Costa Rica was like 2400 for 4000 pts vs our 2100 pts week with a $2000 maintenance. So it was like buying more pts without a crazy addition of maintenance we had other weeks we paid more for but they said it was only florida weeks

I was told they don't offer packages to go to Costa Rica because of the limited number of villas (24).

Yes that’s what they said! It was one of your other posts that made my husband and I start talking about how much we loved it there and call. The girl we talked to was really nice. So was the First Gentleman. Wish the rest of mvc was as nice! Guess it’s the Costa Rica way and what we loved so much about it
