I got an email for my stay at the MBV to confirm an upgrade - I hardly ever ask for an upgrade as I book the unit I want (the Premier+ units)

AND at MBV if I have my deeded room 2BP, I do not want the ADA 2PH! So, I do not request upgrades. I do not know what I did for this stay but I happily booked a 3BP (Bedroom Plus) and was upgraded to the only option a 3PX (3 bedroom premier). Another place I do not request an upgrade is the Studio Premier + unit at The Residences. What would they upgrade me to? A Studio PH? NOPE smaller room type - I do not ask for the upgrade on this booking either.

My question to the readers - Have you been upgraded? % of times it comes through and were you happy with the new accomodations. I wouldn’t be happy in the 2PH ADA room.

The only past upgrade I can think of is at the Parc Soliel in Orlando went from a Studio+ to a PH Studio - and that if you look is the same point rate. Not really an upgrade. Is it?

We often get upgraded at Elara and W57th. Some places, like OO, we reserve the OF units so there isn't an upgrade option.

In my experience, the upgrades are automatic if available. I never ask for an upgrade and often get them. You mentioned smaller room. I've encountered this in Chicago. The upgraded 1BR are a bit smaller but come with a sliver of a view of navy pier. I enjoy it. I've gotten in unit type upgrades and studio to 1BR upgrades, where appropriate, e.g. Tuscany and SeaWorld. I estimate the in unit type upgrades are about 70% of the time. The studio to 1BR about 50% of the time. I have over 300 HGVC checking. Aloha.

On the Elite side of things, you get the option, when booking, to accept any upgrades but then from that point, it is automatic and you just get an email that you were upgraded....if you were.

Yes, that is my experience. Although, there have been some upgrades when I didn't accept or didn't answer the question. It is automatic.

Nearly all of my 300 check-ins were for 3 to 5 night stays. Nearly all were close in reservations booked within 30 days of arrival with about 20 or so booked the day before arrival. Upgrade notification usually comes within 24 hours of booking. If you book further out, I believe upgrades are not processed before 60 days prior to arrival

W57th Impressive - I can’t get a balcony.

Navy Pier, Nice. I didn’t know you could see that from the DT. My view was Ohio St.

I got the email! I think it was my first ever email regarding an upgrade.

My upgrade is for the 05Sep - within a month.

AND 300 check-ins! Now I wish I kept track! I have no idea. But I travel 2-3 times a month and have done so since 2015.

We book STX, a small number of which (4) have balconies. I always request in advance and we've gotten the balcony the last 3 or 4 times. But definitely a crap shoot.

We are HGVC cardboard, so this is not status-based :)

Cheers.

We've been upgraded maybe 20% of the time at The Quin. Usually book the size unit we want and they don't typically upgrade to the penthouse units, which are listed as a different resort now. Most common upgrades we've got were in the winter when we booked a smaller room for a discount over a weekend; upgrade comes through about half the time and makes it a quite good deal for a weekend in the city and a couple of plays. Second most common for one night stays en route to flights.

The 3PX at MBV is AMAZING!

Ask for Building 4 , great location , central , and view faces the Club House / Ocean.

We survived the Tsunami warning in that building :)

OMG! You were there for that!
Any videos or other tips from MBV?
How responsive/supportive were they (if something really bad actually happened)?
Heard folks at Fairmont on BI, were told to go & figure it out themselves... And folks were stuck in traffic jams everywhere... Not nice..
TY!

I think my room was going to be at the front of BLDG 2 - A very nice room, but the view isn’t there. I stood behind a lady that was kvetching about the 1 bedroom next door. Bldg 4 would be great with that view. I update in Sept.

I was upgraded at check in this year for the first time, not sure why, it wasn't explained and I didn't ask. I had booked a phase 2 standard 2 br at KL and they put us in a phase 3 plus room, second floor far end of the last building 25. It was very quiet and secluded except for the darn landscapers with weed whackers and blowers a couple of mornings. We would have preferred what we booked with ground floor back lawn access, so we didn't consider it an upgrade but it was nice to get in at 2pm.
