I just went into my United app to look at my flights I booked a few months
Ago Using miles and I noticed that it says this flight has been wait listed. What
Does that mean? My seats are still listed there but if I go into try change my
Seats it doesn't allow that. My seats are fine, I don't need to change them but I
Just noticed that when I was trying to see what this wait listed flight means.

I've never seen this before.

Waitlisted means a flight is oversold but cancellations will work that out.

As United may be rearranging seats upgrades etc they prevent you doing the same.

Thanks for the quick response. We usually go in about once a week because they
Sometimes change our seats and then we go back in an change them again if
Necessary. We'll keep watching it to see if they change ours and change them if
We can get in and do it or maybe we'll get upgraded to first class.:D

If you are saying you have confirmed tickets, you shouldn't be seeing a waitlisted message. Even if the flight is full, you just won't be able to change seats. I would call and confirm the status of your tickets. Make sure you have ticket numbers not just a confirmation number.

I have a confirmation number just like I always do. Then 24 hours before I can
Checkin To get my boarding pass. I don't think I've ever been given a ticket
Number before that.

I called them just to make sure and they said there was a slight change to the
Flight times. It was only a few minutes on two flights. My seats didn't change
Because the flight numbers stayed the same. They said I was good to go.

Everything seems the same except I can't change my seats right now because of
The wait list but I do have the seats that I want. Everything else seems to be the
Same as every other flight I've had with them.

You will have a ticket number too. United provides them if you look up your itinerary online. Its about 10 digits long and there is one for each person in your group. Sounds like you are OK though. If a schedule change was in place, they would have you accept the changes before doing anything with the trip. If the flight is full you can't change seats. However, I haven't seen a wait list notice on a flight that I had a confirmed ticket. Just on flights that I was waitlisted myself.

I checked again this morning and the wait list notice is gone. It must of had to
Do with the change in flight times that I didn't approve. I can go in now and
Change seats if I want to. There are a lot of seats left everywhere.

I went on United online and looked around in there but I couldn't find my ticket
Number anywhere. I looked on a few other reservations I have open also. Where
Do you see your ticket number?

You have to look on your receipt for the ticket number. When looking at your reservation scroll down until you see the link to view receipt.

I always make sure I have a print out of the ticket numbers. Until you have ticket numbers, you aren't flying-even if you have a confirmation number. It protects your rights to have that info.

Thank You for all your responses. I figured I always got a ticket number
Because I've been flying Uniteds for over a decade with no issues but I never
Noticed the ticket number before. I couldn't find it anywhere in the app.

I went to my United email folder and looked at the original email receipt I got
When I made the reservation and the ticket number was on there. I have only
Had to contact United a few times in all these years and was never asked for a
Ticket number, they always asked for a confirmation number.

I guess that leads me to ask, what would the situation be that you would have
A confirmation number but not a ticket number?

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, Jeff. I've been flying UA for over 25 years and never have used or needed a ticket # until recently. We were recently wait-listed for upgrades on several legs to/from Europe. Meanwhile, we had paid for E+ just in case. When the upgrades came through, I had to apply for the refunds of the E+ and had to dig around to find the ticket #s (different for each of us and for each leg).

Seems like most of my questions are because of the app or my lack of
Knowledge using it. I couldn't find the ticket number on there and when they
Used the term wait listed on the app when I really just had to acknowledge the
Scheduled changes.

I'm glad everything is fine with my reservation and now I can start my count
Down to Kauai. 86 days!:D

In most cases, trouble comes if United is booking flights on partner airlines. Many many times United will give you the confirmation number right away then complete booking with the partners over the next day (or hours). You def. want a ticket number from each airline. On Flyertalk, I have ready more than a couple of times where a disconnect happened and the partners didn't book the seats. Caused a lot of difficulty. Look, I am overkill on this stuff. But I travel for work weekly. When I have an international vacation planned with my wife, I really make sure no glitches will happen. (Or do what I can to minimize.) At work, we call it "belts with suspenders." Most times things process smoothly.
