UBER Questions From First Time User

That's unfortunate. Sounds like drive realized surge pricing kicked in, and decided to take that trip. You definitely need to follow up with Uber. Here's a tip: always confirm the license plate on the car before you get in.

Did you get another uber?

No I was annoyed at that tactic, as I figured he dumped us for the extra $$. That's one of the pitfalls of the UBER system for the rider. It was a classic Bait and Switch.

At that hour there were dozens of other Black Cars and limos all calling us out for a ride. Started to walk over to the yellow taxi stand. But then out of frustration I negotiated up front the same price with a limo driver. Turned out that he lived in my area and wanted to get one last fare for the night. So it was a win for both of us. Gave him a few extra $ as well.

I only use UBER rarely anymore as sort of a protest against the jerk in charge.

Cheers

DW orders UBER to pick us up at arrivals almost midnight. We have luggage and location. Price $31 8 minutes away. Less than one minute later Driver calls and confirms location for pickup and status is one minute away. Car is a black Toyota Camry.

That is a mess. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Just a couple of tips based on my experience with Uber.

The picture of the car that they show may NOT be the same color as the car you get. This is frustrating to me, but it's a fact.

You have to look at the license plate number Uber sends to be sure you have the correct car. You also need to look at the driver's name. I've taught my kids that when the Uber comes, you check the license plate number. Then you go to the back passenger door, open it, and say to the driver, "Tell me your name." The driver HAS TO SAY the same name as you have been given, or else something is wrong and you don't want to get in that car.

Keep writing to Uber using their Contact Us button in the app. They can easily give you a credit for use on your next ride. Good luck!

Yeah, you are so right about that. There was also an article in the NY Times a couple of days ago about how they use behavioral economics to keep drivers going for longer shifts. Interesting and disturbing.

Employers have been using "behavioral economics to keep [workers] going for longer shifts" for a long time. Its called overtime pay.

But in a regular job you have to work, Uber drivers choose when to work.

So far they gave us a $5 credit Big deal. Bunch of jerks.

Next I am going to drill down get the details of the driver, local office address, complain to NYC TLC.

Lets see how far UBER will cooperate.

It really was the Classic Bait and Switch. UBER facilitated this by design. The driver jumped on it.
