Uber in Maui

You are a great person to help out those tourists in need. Thank you for spreading kindness!

I was heading that way anyway -- we visit the farmer's market every week. And they were clearly wiped out biking uphill from Two Step.

Unfortunately, they waited out in the sun for nearly an hour -- because I had no idea they were sitting there until I was almost on top of them.

Unfortunately, Uber can be frustrating. Yesterday, I gave a ride to two tourists with bicycles who were sitting on my driveway, waiting on an Uber. Four or five drivers flaked on them, and then they had to start the waiting process all over again. They were wiped out just trying to get from the water to my driveway. Since I was heading that way, I brought them as far as the flat section of Ali'i in Keauhou. At least that way they had an easy ride back to wherever their Haolewood condo was. They said they had been waiting for more than an hour.

This exact thing has happened to me at the airport. "Your ride will arrive in 15 minutes." And then 10. And 5. And then a different vehicle pops up with "Your ride will arrive in 20 minutes." And over and over again.

I had a similar experience in New Orleans a few years back. We did a walking tour that ended up in a less touristy part of town. I think we had at least four drivers drop us off before we finally managed to flag down a taxi to drop someone off.

We always figured that the cost of the car rental, airfare, etc. was part of the cost of the vacation. And since we're paying much less for lodging........

We have an SUV for 3 weeks all in for $1300. When I look up rates today it's about $2000 for the 3 weeks.
Yes rental prices are nuts. Thanksgiving our rental was much more than our flights for 2.

I would say $1300 for 3 weeks is a good deal.......even though that seems silly crazy

Here is an update, as we are on our way home from a beautiful trip. We have only good things to say about Uber on Maui. Because of crazy circumstances, we had to make four Uber trips….the first from the airport to Maui Ocean Club, then 3 trips from MOC to OGG, due to people having to fly home on different dates. We only had to wait a couple of minutes for our Uber to arrive. Uber X was $61-64 plus tip. UberXL was $120. We also saw many others using Uber both at Ogg and at MOC.
We had a lovely time just staying put and chilling at MOC after an active week at KoOlina. Ate at Whaler’s Village for lunch and dinners. Saw lots of whales, a monk seal, and gorgeous sunsets. It was very relaxing indeed!
Thanks for all who encouraged me to try Uber on Maui. We saved about $500 doing it this way verses renting a car, having to pay parking fees, then and having the car sit in the parking lot. I’m not sure why car rentals were so high, but it worked out in our favor for what we needed. Mahalo and happy travels!

Glad to hear Uber worked well for your trip!
