After what’s been going on in the US lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if many countries put a travel warning out for coming to the states.

Kurt
Unfortunately it’s not only lately….it’s been going on for years.

I kind of wonder how all of the new policy changes regarding USA to Mexico affects the attitudes of Mexicans. I see that policy changes with Canada has 27% of Canadians looking at the USA as an enemy. It makes me wonder how Mexicans view Americans because of the recent changes. I still think the resort areas are safe and will continue to be safe because tourism is a main industry in Mexico resort areas.

Well driving down a freeway in the United States has always been risky. 40,000+ killed and millions severely injured every year.

I think this has more to do with the threats to Canadian sovereignty than the policy changes. To keep this touchy subject relevant to travel, I certainly don't feel more unsafe traveling to the US for my upcoming spring break trip in a couple of weeks. Having said this, we would not be going had we not booked this trip 8 months ago.

I’ve been in Mexico since Saturday. Haven’t heard one word from anyone about trade and tariffs. The media is obsessed with it. Average people aren’t.

I watched a CBC Vancouver clip about the travel boycott to the USA. They reported some huge dollar amount like 2 billion in Canadian tourist dollars will be going elsewhere. I always think these reports are bs but this one might be a bit true seeing your feelings about it. For us, I wasn't really planning on heading North into Canada anyway but if I did I would be cautious. The political jiber jaber & shenanigans will probably hurt tourism in both directions, imo.

I think the resort areas are fairly insulated from the border and cartel problems. Yup, the media is obsessed with the bs. I can't even turn on you tube without seeing all of the bs filtering into and berween my subscriptions.

The railroad workers unions in Germany and Italy warn of increasing danger of crime on trains, but I have not seen any governments issuing warnings of that. In fact, the union in Italy called a strike over that problem last year.

The workers there don’t care about red or blue. Only green.

They may care, but when your next meal is at stake the choice is usually to shut up and smile.

I suppose an unfavorable exchange rate doesn't help either.

Yeah that's a flippant dismissal of a Level 4 travel advisory. As for Mexico, the warning is very specific as to the areas of concern. I wouldn't count on Warren Zevon's lawyers, guns and money getting you out of those potential messes!

Why is it flippant? The statement is accurate.

Heh. I have been to seven of the countries which currently have Level 4 advisories. And I ran through another while it was the worst place on the planet, but no longer is experiencing troubles.

No one is going to Yemen on Spring Break

I am guessing Yemen is not a new add to the list...

There are people I know though work that have gone really odd places for vacations, or at least seemed odd to me.

The sales guy for one of my suppliers went on vacation to Syria a few years back, so perhaps it was safer then. I had a coworker who went backpacking in Iran, also not on my shortlist.

One of my former coworkers chose his vacation destinations by picking the country where their local currency collapsed against the US dollar.

Palmyra was lovely before the religious nutters tore much of it down. I'm glad I've seen it. The Roman ruins of Timgad, Algeria are similarly impressive -- and was deserted when I was there. An entire Roman town to myself.

If I wanted crowds, I could go to Disney World.
