We are going to the Mayan Palace - Riviera Maya in late January. Does anyone know if the ocean-front restaurant Tumtah has been refurbished? The hurricane filled it with sand last year and I was just wondering if it had finally been renovated. It was our favorite restaurant.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks - I didn't think to check the website. We took photos of the sand filled restaurant when we were there a month after the hurricane. It was a really nice place.

We have just returned from the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya. The Tramonto Italian restaurant on the top floor of the building overlooking the pool was fully operational. Work was underway on refurbishing the central part of the second floor into what I was told will be a pool bar, but I doubt that it will be open by January. Also, construction was continuing on the lazy river, water slides, etc right next to that building but the progress is slow. My guess is that this facility will not open before summer. The man-made sandy beach (the dry sand portion all the way to the pool) is in good shape but rocks remain a problem for those who want to wade into the ocean. Any other questions ?

tumtah beach side dining??

please does anyone know if this is now open??

In addition to the Tramonto Italian Restaurant and steak house there is the informal Del Lago offering various buffets and sea food, the Balche pool snack bar, the Havana Moon beach club and bar and the Brio golf course snack bar. That's all. I wonder where does your information come from ?

Thanks Kola. We are looking forward to our trip. We were hoping that the seaside restaurant had re-opened. The food was generally good and the view spectacular.

I received a booklet from the MP that the "Super Pool" at the GM Riviera Maya will open in July 2007. It also mentioned a Pool Bar. In October 2007, the new Facility Center is scheduled to be open in October 2007 - includes a partially covered pool and jacuzzi. There will be a French creperie, a causal Chinese restaurant and a sushi bar.

There is indeed a lot of construction activity on the site of the future Activity Centre, but the progress is slow. When we were there in early Dec. their main preoccupation was a future lazy river and water slides and access to the "lake" (which used to be known as a "dump"). Since October 2007 is still ten months away, it is possible that they may be able to manage to complete this part of the project. Cleaning up the mess on this site, being so central and so close to the Tramonto and Del Lago Restaurants, should certainly be a high prioriity.

Lets keep in mind that apart from that site there are several additional GM buildings under construction on the south side of the golf course. They are quite a distance from the beach and the pool and would need some service facilities. As well, they have a major project underway just north of the existing Mayan Palace buildings # 11 to 21 in the general direction of the highway. My guess is that there will be at least ten new buildings in this phase. It would appear from the plans I have seen that there will be another large pool complex to serve these new buildings, likely with a snack bar and swim-up bars. All this makes sense in terms of overall site development but the completion of construction activity in this resort is still a few years away.

I should add that I was impressed by their staff's effort to provide efficient service in every respect, this despite an obvious difficulty experienced by many in communicating in English.

Does the "Super Pool" include the lazy river? How about the water park? I hope it opens by July 2007. We are looking forward to our trip. :)

The Mayan Sun (brochure) did not mention the words water park or lazy river - just Super Pool. I'll try to check it out during the 3 weeks that I am there and post when I get back home.

The existing huge pool does not include a lazy river or a water park. These are under construction quite separate from the pool, - actually on the opposite side of the large building occupied by the Tramonto restaurant (2nd fl) and the Super Marcado deli and cibercafe (1st floor). As to when these new facilities will be ready, my guess is late next year. See my last post on this subject. A lot remains to be completed and the rate of progress in Mexico is slow. I have not seen anywhere a description of a "water park", - thus your concept may or may not be the same as their plans.

No, as of the week after Thanksgiving, it was not open. From what I saw, I don't believe it will be open for some time, maybe summer. It definitely looks bigger and sturdier than the last one. They also are putting in a retaining wall, which may help if there is another hurricane.
