Hope someone can help. What price should I expect to pay for an August flight to Seattle from Orange County (Los Angeles area) with stopover in Portland then back to Orange County?

Currently it runs almost $875 for two for the multi-city trip and I am not sure if I should buy now or wait a while.

BTW we are commited to that timeframe with timeshare reservations.

Thank you for any tidbits that will help!

Hi Cathy,

I just checked Alaska Airlines for a Multi-City flight for you. Leaving from Long Beach airport (LGB) to Seattle (SEA) nonstop on August 4th, then a week later flying Seattle to Portland (PDX) on August 11, then Portland back to Long Beach nonstop on August 18th. Selecting the least expensive flights in all three cases gave a final cost of $615 for two, including taxes.

I have no idea whether those dates are even close to your flight days, but that shows "real" numbers, as of a few minutes ago.

Hope this helps,
Dave

I don't know which airlines you are checking, but have you tried pricing it with Southwest? I know you won't be able to see August yet, but could at least get an idea of what the fare would be now.

Well, forget that. I just found this on the Southwest website:

Published scheduled service between (Seattle - SEA) and (Portland - PDX) will be discontinued on 01/06/2012.

Didn't think about Long Beach ...

Dave: Thank you for alerting me to check Long Beach. Our dates are close to your guess: Lv 8/5 for SEA, ferry to Victoria and back, then lv SEA to Portland (Depoe Bay) on 8/11, then back to home on 8/15. Because of my hubby having early dementia, I am trying to stay with non-stops for less stress. I'll pencil out Long Beach for my dates.

Wow, that's a surprise! I was avoiding Southwest because from SNA we had to make a plane change. Thank you for replying!

Cathy, you could also try Southwest up and back, and use Alaska (or whoever) for the SEA to PDX leg. Also, if you book a miles-plus-cash thing, you can get a lower cost and use some air miles, if you have some available. It might help bring down the cost.

Cathy,

A couple other options for you...

First of all, you could consider the Amtrak from Seattle to Portland. It is a nice trip and very low stress. Also, if you are looking at Long Beach, remember that Jet Blue is an option from Seattle.

One other thought. Are you going to be renting a car? Had you considered driving from Seattle to Portland (about a 3 hour drive). It might almost be quicker than flying when you consider how far ahead of the flight you need to check in.

The Alaska/Horizon flights from SEA to PDX allow you to use the express lanes at security; i.e. it's the same as the first class line. You still go through security, but you can cut ahead of the line. It's also a beautiful flight if you are flying during the day. Get a seat on the left side for a view of the mountains.

I have also checked one-way fares lately for trips. They used to be more expensive but lately they're cheaper.
