Hurricane Ike is currently inflicting harm to the Caribbean. I am sure many Tuggers live in the Gulf Coast as well as vacation in the Carribbean. I would be interested to know how the Tuggers in cyberspace have responded to this situation. Got to go now to evacuate a relative from a nursing home and pick up some prescriptions.

We are having huge waves here in the Florida Panhandle with a lot of flooding. Our main road out of Destin to Ft Walton has flooded over and we now have to go around on the Mid-Bay Bridge---it is now 60 miles round trip versus a 6 mile trip to Ft Walton. No rain but high tides and big surf.

We are in Houston and have been told to "shelter in place." That kept people off the freeways so that the coastal areas under mandatory evacuation orders could get out. Now we have heard that as many as 40% of the people in Galveston did not leave, so maybe that was why the freeways did not have gridlock. People spent hours on freeways with Rita, but compliance was much higher. I know there are other tuggers in this area and I want to tell you to please stay safe.

Yikes

We're vacationing in California and my brother and his wife flew in on Sunday to join us. They live near Galveston Bay, I believe it's called, and their home is in danger of suffering from storm surges. My 18-year-old niece is still there, staying with close family friends.

Needless to say, although there's nothing that can be done from here, the tension level is a bit high considering we're on holidays!!

Best to all.
