Barb, @beejaybeeohio put a note on fb that her husband Fred suffered a perforated appendix last week. He'd had a colonoscopy just a few days earlier. She said there is some correlation between colonoscopies and appendix trouble. Anyway, he's in the hospital with non-contagious e-coli, and on clear liquid diet and IV drug cocktail that will continue with home nursing after he's released. We've enjoyed a transatlantic cruise with this couple and they are great TUGgers. Keep Fred in your thoughts.

Jim

How horrible this happened. In my thoughts and prayer.

Sorry to hear this. Get well, Fred!

Dave

Ok Fred, my prayers and thoughts are with you. Keep well soon because there are so me nice transatlantic cruises coming up for 2020 and 2021.

Fred , I just want you to feel better. Ok.:hi:

Sending cyber strength and best wishes to Fred. What a scary ordeal.

Get well Fred

Thanks for the heads up Jim.

@beejaybeeohio I hope that Fred has a speedy recovery. We will be praying hard for both of you! There's nothing worse than medical complications!

So sorry. Praying for Fred to recover quickly. Terrible that this has happened to him.

Healing prayers sent Fred's way.

Wishing Fred a quick recovery. Please keep us posted.

Praying for a complete recovery.

Sorry to hear about Fred's misfortune. Here is hope for a complete and speedy recovery.

Today's update: Fred's doing fine. His temp is under 100, and he's set to go home tomorrow. He'll have some home care and won't be making a planned trip this week, but Barb says they can reschedule for later. Thanks for your good thoughts and prayers.

Jim

Good news !! Home in time for the game.

Bill

Thank you Jim & all Tuggers for your prayers, thoughts and best wishes.

Fred should be coming home sometime today- he will have a PICC line for his antiboiotic "cocktail" and the vial will be delievered here nightly for the next day's use. As I noted on Facebook, I am very grateful he is doing well and also that the home health care I will assist in does not include diapering!

To quote from one source: Overall, acute appendicitis is a rare condition after colonoscopy but an important complication to consider for all patients presenting with abdominal pain after colonoscopy. ..

The risk is greater in people of age, so please take note of this possibility. Unfortunately, when Fred called the office of the doctor who performed his colonoscopy, whomever he spoke to did not advise him correctly instead telling him that if the pain persisted over the weekend to go in for a CAT scan then. Luckily, we ignored that advice and got him to the E.R. the next day when he developed a fever that kept rising.

Saying prayers for your hubby and you! Glad to know he will be going home soon. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

Nurse is here now for 2nd visit to teach Fred how to infuse himself via the PICC. Whew, since I was very nervous about providiing home health care myself. The surgeon warned me that his recovery would be slow, but, aside from fighting the e-coli, Fred is rockin' & rollin'. The highlight of his day today was a trip with a buddy to a butcher shop a few towns away. He came home with some of his favorite meats- skinless kielbasa and braunschweiger!

Hard to believe a week ago at this time he was in the recovery room post-surgery......

Please continue your good thoughts and prayers so that the e-coli is vanquished.

Thanks, Barb
