TUGBBS under attack again

Tapatalk is definitely being impacted by using a vpn (or perhaps changing IPs for the same account, etc - not sure what security you've implemented) now, while last month that wasn't the case.

yes we put a ban on a number of entire countries that were just bombarding the site with traffic. though id be pretty shocked to see any common vpn tunneling thru them.

countries like china, singapore, vietnam, afghanistan, ukraine, etc etc... they were all blocked at a country level.

that said, it cant be just geographic as even I see the error once a day or so.

I've not been using a vpn via any country you would be blocking. I've noticed increased hacking attempts on one of my servers from Iran and Taiwan of late…

and the host claims to have found something related to tapatalk - and implemented a fix.

i dont have my hopes up because i know plenty of you DONT use tapatalk and still get the error (me included)...but who knows.

Good luck with this fix and TUGBrian, please enjoy your vacation with your children. They grow up so fast.

Thanks Brian. We appreciate the efforts and communication.

all good, the room we have is literally ON the pool deck so its ridiculously convenient to come back for quick breaks (currently they are napping to prepare for the 3pm ice cream social...naps are very important)!

im just frustrated that this error isnt consistently repeatable to allow for an easier way to track down the problem.

Tapatalk has been much better today on wifi - ironically not so much on 5G now LOL.

cant make anyone happy these days lol!

now they seem to think it may be xenforo itself doing the blocking vs the server firewall/modsec rules.... though id think if that were the case it would block you completely given how those rules work.

Do you have MVC IT working on this? :ROFLMAO:

funny you mention that!

i tried the mobile check in thing... however upon arrival the desk "couldnt find my reservation"....and then when it was found, it didnt have my bonvoy account linked....

no problem right? ill just open the app on my phone and get you all the info you need! app just kept spitting out "we encountered an error, please try again later" while I stood there at the desk. kinda felt bad for the attendant....the app is close to useless thats for sure.

How did you make the reservation? Was it through II and if so, had you somehow added your Bonvoy number?

points, id linked my bonvoy account to the reservation weeks ago (thru the app). it was why i was so surprised when he asked for it.

i think something else might have gone on with that, as when i called on sunday the day before we left to ask about early check in on monday, the phone concierge also couldnt find my reservation initially.

I think your ownerships are in a trust? This is a common problem. Perhaps some others here know of better ways to handle it. You may need to have individual MVC logins setup so when you make the reservations they are in your name vs in the name of the trust.

ive always guessed its the spelling of the last name, most people type in roDgers.... which is of course the totally wrong way to spell rogers lol.

even the concierge did it when we were getting the parking pass. so it could realistically just be as simple as that, ive never actually seen the screens the check in attendants and or concierges have when looking up a reservation!

Back to having issues on wifi today with Tapatalk LOL. Switching off WiFi temporarily provides relief again. What’s odd is that it’s not every post, some posts load fine in Tapatalk, while others don’t - seems like it’s a caching issue for newer posts. Even in the same thread - I can access a previously viewed post that I’ve accessed previously - then whenever I pan down to look at the newer content in the thread, I start getting pop-up errors. I will share a screenshot if I can.

Just a thought

I was talking to an old acquaintance from networking days this morning (from 25 years ago)
His son is active in network security at a very high level
His son is saying the "bad" guys are focused on phones/tablets these days
Apps and Apple/Android operating systems are full of network holes on phones
Many people have bank/financial passwords and login information on their phones
No antivirus like Norton etc on the phone
It presents an easier target than the PC these days

I had a problem several weeks ago with logging into TUG
Received the "forbidden" error
Once
PC/Windows/Norton
Norton did an update
Microsoft did an update
PC did a driver update
No more problems

I don't log into TUG with phone or tablet
(screen is too small these days)

I didn't realize there was still a problem until I checked this thread

this was actually super helpful...the only thing missing is the url/address/link you were trying to access?

I am seeing this more often now. I don't get that forbidden message much anymore. I would expect to see this if I lack an internet connection, but even when I get this on TUGBBS other sites load just fine.

can you tell me what page you tried to access where it generated that message?

TUGBrian, this so strange, weird. I only received the Forbidden Message code 403 only on this website.

at this point ill need a url/path that generates it to try to figure out why its generating that message, ive not gotten one myself in weeks.

Unfortunately IDR what I was accessing at that time, Tapatalk doesn’t display the URL at all by default. If it happens again I will see if I can retrieve it.
