I mentioned this in the Zoom Videoconferencing thread. I am organizing a TUG Get Together YouTube Livestream event. Not sure what day or time yet, but probably in the afternoon on Saturday or Sunday. It isn't like people have anywhere else to go, so I am not sure if the time matters. I am thinking of bringing in three other participants in to the live stream, we can also have unlimited participants in live chat through YouTube.

To participate in video, you would need the following;
  • A laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone.
  • A recent version of Chrome or Firefox.
  • A strong internet connection. Just like Skype, you must have a strong internet connection for it to work well. If possible, connect to your router with an ethernet cable instead of using WiFi.
  • We recommend wearing earbuds or headphones to prevent audio echoes.
  • If you don’t have a laptop or desktop, then you can join on your phone. But the experience is usually best on a laptop/desktop. On Android, we recommend the Chrome browser. On iOS, you must use Safari.
PM me if you are interested, or make any recommendations of who you want to see. Perhaps we can coax them in to participating :). We can test out connectivity before the live stream event, but participating on the video is super easy and participating in live chat is even more easy for the camera shy.

To watch and chat, all you need is a computer or smartphone!

Great idea. I am in. I am a little confused as to what this means “I am thinking of bringing in three other participants in to the live stream, we can also have unlimited participants in live chat through YouTube.”

The software I am using can only accept up to six participants in the video (on screen). I am thinking keeping it to four. An unlimited number of people can watch the livestream though YouTube. During a YouTube livestream any viewer can chat live. Everyone else watching as well as those in the live video can see the chat. Hope this clears things up.

Zoom I think lets you have something like 100 even with a free account. Just something to think about. I think Google Hangouts also allow way more than 6 participants.

I was told Zoom had a limit of 40 with a free account.

Zoom has a limit of 100 participants with a 40 minute limit meeting time in the free version.
Thanks. I was thinking of the 40 minute limit and got confused.

OK. I'll buy the first round. Oh, never mind, it would take too long to go to each or your stash's and make it for you. BRING YOUR OWN!

Well since this was in the TUG newsletter, I guess we need to move forward. Watching is easy enough and I will setup a live stream event on YouTube and post the link shortly. Still looking for volunteers to participate on video. If interest please click on my blue username and click "Start Conversation" and send me a message. Though I am going to reach out to a few people also.

I just removed zoom. It was causing problems for many in subdivision they claim they were hacked.
here is what happened yesterday.
One year ago our board had approved 800000 thousand dollars to redo greens on April 12, they already destroyed the collars, and have a contract. Some people were demanding they stop the plan. They had a emergency board meeting and sent out the zoom number. Only 100 could get on. Half hour into it, Comcast does maintenance and entire subdivision has no internet and no television for six hours. Board voted to continue project. People felt they should not have continued the meeting. Someone is filing a lawsuit to stop it.
meanwhile a fire spread to fort Myers airport. The parking lot of rental cars caught fire. Huge black cloud in sky.
i feel i am living inside a DeanKoontz novel

What are the topics for the Live Stream?
Is it just open Q&A?
We plan to have a few talking points, but for the most part it will be open Q&A. So come ready with questions for everyone.

Okay. We have the date, time and participants set.

TUG Virtual Meet Up Livestream Event - Sunday April 5th - 4:00pm Eastern Time

Here is a link to access it directly on YouTube. https://bit.ly/2V69V9K
You can go to the video page now and set a reminder.

I don't suggest watching it directly through the player in this TUG thread, instead hover over and click on the title to go directly to YouTube.
There you will be able to view and participate in live chat and talk with us and anyone else that joins in.
