Troubles with eBay buyer

I know we've all had our troubles with eBay at one time or another but help me understand what might be happening here.

I sold a gift card on eBay a few weeks ago. The buyer was slow in responding and when she did, she claimed to be having trouble with her Paypal account. About a week later I received payment from Paypal so I mailed the item via USPS, delivery signature required and insured for the full amount of the card.

The buyer has yet to sign for the delivery. The USPS sites says...."Out for Delivery, Sep-30-11, 08:38 AM" and then "Delivery status not updated, Sep-30-11, 22:38 PM." Nothing since then. I called the post office and they are starting a trace on it, I should hear something within two business days.

I have not left feedback for this buyer, and she hasn't left any for me. Her feedback is 100%, but with only a small amount of transactions. She has been buying items from eBay since our transaction and has received favorable feedback from those sellers. I have emailed her twice asking if she's received it or not, but she hasn't responded.

My question is, why would someone pay a good amount of money for an item and then not pick it up? We're talking several hundred dollars here, not a $5 knicknack. I don't think it's a scam since Paypal has paid me. What gives?

I have three hunches:
(1) You're dealing with someone who's a few clowns short of a circus.
(2) They're afraid its a Court-Summons in disguise.
(3) They have some sort of life, which keeps them otherwise occupied.

But the more interesting question is what sort of person buys a gift card on eBay?

You'd be surprised! I was shocked to see so many gift cards for auction. People are picking them up for face value or higher. Go figure.
