Tropical Storm Erika

yea, now the projected path is right over my house. Expecting lots of rain

keep us posted Ron. I live in Estero, but I am away from home.

They are still calling for 5" of rain, so the threat is not entirely over for many people. I see the flooded roads on the news almost every night, BEFORE the remnants of Erika come along. Jeb Bush used to say - walk from wind - run from water.

DS (who works for a major disaster restoration company that was ready to head to FL) sent this to me.

5 inches of rain here is not uncommon... we can handle that (the record is 10 inches in one day in 1995) Heres something from the news last month "Sanibel Island measured 4.28 inches and a weather station to the east, in mainland Fort Myers reported 3.14 inches"

Im not saying it doesnt cause some problems (ive seen fish swimming down the middle of my street) but 5 inches isnt too much to handle

It's the inland areas that flood, not the coastal areas. 5 inches of rain here just rolls into the canal. But in places like Golden Gate, they claim the first responders can't even get down the street. Many of those areas don't even have paved roads.

Golden Gate is one of those places that never should have been carved up and sold. 5 acre lots in the Everglades was never a sound plan..I dont think the Rosen Brothers ever really expected anyone to build there

But 5in of rain is 5ft of Snow.

Neither is easy to handle on any system.
