Where are you staying? And when will you be there?

We have always rented a car when we were in Las Vegas. There are some good prices on Hotwire.

We did a daytrip to Laughlin that was free. We went to the casinos and had a free buffet, too. The bus driver was great and described everything we saw along the way. I really enjoyed to.

It was either this one, or something similar - CLICK HERE There are a lot of other tours listed here, too.

I actually like Lake Las Vegas when I stayed for a weekend there after a conference in LAS.

It is an simple drive of 26 miles and some of the hotel may have a pay for shuttle that does hourly or so trips there. I think Loews (which used to be a Hyatt) did and it had picked up mid strip from Planet hollywood or someplace close to there. Some interesting area to walk around and nice scenary.

Red rock canyons is the desert, beautiful and a short drive, also tours go there. You can stop at Lake las Vegas if you drive - strange - a semi Tuscan city in the desert

We spent some time driving through the Valley of Fire. We picked up hot dogs, etc. at a store right in the park, at the top (bottom?) of Lake Mead. It was a very nice diversion. We also did the Lake Mead cruise on another day. It was nice too, but a bit too long, in my estimation.
