Hello all,

After a recent timeshare presentation trip, I was offered a chance to buy 11,200 points for $1,700 to be used for up to 7 total nights at a Hilton Grand Vacation Club. Is this purchase a good value?

IMO, it is an OK deal that lets you "dip your toes" and somewhat experience HGVC. On the downside, it will require another sales presentation. On the plus side you can travel to several but limited HGVC resorts. The inventory in this program is different than regular what a HGVC member would see.

We just used one for a stay at Kingsland (the salesfolks recommended Kohala but our kids prefer the pool at Kingsland). We did it to get a reasonable cost to extend our vacation at a resort we knew/liked (we've been HGVC members for about five years now). One tip: you need to schedule these well in advance, just like you would for a timeshare. However you can book at the start of the month for the booking window, not a precise number of days since inventory is different from what you would book directly on "normal" points. I don't recall how many months it is (call to be sure), but if you want the week of July 18-25, don't wait for exactly x many days, instead call Oct 1 (if 9 months out). Helps a bit with availability. You do have that second presentation but if you can keep saying no it'll be okay.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I think I will cancel instead; it's just an OK deal as GT75 says, and none of the available locations are pet-friendly, which I was hoping for. We didn't take the cats on the Orlando trip at which we were offered this deal and they were pretty unhappy about being left at home and weren't eating regularly. They're coming with us for a New Hampshire vacation in August and I would prefer to only leave them at home when we are flying some place that they really can't come, rather than planning my next pet-free trip exclusively around an HGVC resort.

There aren't many pet friendly timeshares. Westgate properties allow dogs (for a fee) but not cats.

I just cancelled mine after doing a presentation on Sunday. As others have mentioned it isn't bad, but it is okay to sample. Hard to beat 260$/USD for a 1-2BR in hawaii. However, that money could go toward a Platinum Vegas or Craigs which is what I opted to do instead since I already have my Marriott

I discovered last year that Hilton and subsidiary hotels are surprisingly pet-friendly and the sales person made it sound like HGVC had a similar policy. Guess not!
