I booked a trip for my son on II to Scotland, and used my Marriott Premier Card to make the exchange. I have several questions:

First, he rented a car and had car problems, and had to exchange the car. Two things occurred with this-- he missed the first day of his stay and had to purchase a night elsewhere. The rental company claims he damaged the car (clutch issues within ten miles of rental pickup- it wouldn't engage). My son had to find another car to purchase at a different agency since the first company had no more availability. My question is, is there a chance that any of this covered is with the Marriott Premier Card I used to purchase the trip?

Also, I purchased TravelGuard on Interval earlier this year for a different exchange-- is it only good for the one trip or does it cover more? I purchased it in April; my son's trip was booked in June for his trip in August/September. I can't find any information on II about the insurance other than I paid for it. I haven't been sent any policy information at all.

Thanks for any help you can give me-- the poor guy really had some bad luck on this one. The good new is he loved the resort once he got there :)

Does the TravelGuard cover the unit or people.
Most insurance covers people and their families to a certain age.
I would imagine your self travelling self driving son is over the age to be covered under your umbrella so is SOL. This is a self insured event.

I have TravelGuard Insurance, but I did not get it from Marriott. The Marriott policy only covers Marriott timeshare trips but mine covers ALL my timeshare trips. If you did an exchange and it is Marriott your son may be covered but if not I think you are out of luck.

The Travel Guard insurance was purchased after a trade of my Maui Ocean Club, but is not related to my son's trip. I did trade a Marriott for my son's trip.

I just need to know exactly what the Travel Guard does cover-- just the one trip or is it for a year or ??

What other travel insurance do you recommend? It would be nice to get yearly insurance since we are traveling more.

Unless it says for annual timeshare, like an option under Vacation Guard, it would be for that one specific trip.

I believe if he had used Marriott Visa card to pay for car rental it would have been covered for the car rental issue.

Marriott's travel insurance covers all of your timeshare trips for a given "use year." The trip can be taken in any calendar year but must have been paid for with the same year's weeks or points. For example, if the trip is in 2015 and the exchange came from your 2015 week (or points), it is covered. But if you used a 2014 or 2016 week (or points) for the 2015 trip it is not covered. I don't know if a trip can be covered if you are not also on the trip, but I doubt it.

What about trips booked with an AC? How do those factor into the TravelGuard insurance coverage? I have two trips this year and three trips at least next year. I'm fine with having to purchase yearly insurance if that's what I need, I just need to know that's what is required.

If indeed I do need a separate yearly type of insurance, any recommendations are appreciated.

I would think that an AC would be considered a non-Marriott property. I buy the Travel Guard policy every year so it rolls over. It covers all of our Timeshare trips for each year. It covers up to 10 people per trip who travel with us. As I said I buy it directly from TG so it covers my non-Marriott weeks too. It is about $249/year. It's called the Timeshare Plus policy.

I think you are referring to the VacationGuard policy directly from VacationGuard....not a policy from Travel Guard, which is a different insurer. VacationGuard is currently the one where MVC links its owners through...but as you mentioned, you can buy directly from them and have it cover non MVC timeshares as well.
