Going to Orlando in August and staying at Marriott Cypress Harbour; 2 adults and 2 kids. Do we need to rent a car? We are planning one day at Universal Studios, one day at Animal Kingdom, & 1 day at Disney World. Maybe one day to Kennedy Space Center. Is Uber available and good to use?

THings are pretty spread out there. Trotting out for a few groceries or whatever just gets harder if you don't have a car.

But the only place I've not rented a car on vacation was NYC, so I am particularly biased in that direction.

Uber in orlando

You didn't mention the ages of the kids. Be aware that Uber is not required to supply car seats (nor are taxies.) It is my understanding that parents are still held accountable to have children in car seats by FL law. Other than that I have read many posts on the Disboards where people are happy with Uber in Orlando. The last I read Uber drivers are not allowed to pick up at the airport but there is no problem with them dropping passengers off at the airport.
Have you looked in to the Lynx bus system? I'm not aware that they pick up at the airport (I just haven't studied it that much), but I think they would be cover most of your needs inside Orlando once you reach your resort.

Rent a car. That is what we do in Orlando.

We always rent a car. If you want to go to Kennedy Space Center you will definitely need one for that.

Does the resort have shuttles to the parks? If they do you may not need or want a car. You could rent one for a day to go to the east coast if you choose.

For me a car is usually more convenient but we read on here about peeps who go to the area and don't rent a car. I remember one thread where the folks did not drive, ever, so a car was out for them.

Having been there many times, get a rental car. You will want to do other things than just take a bus or shuttle to the Mouse.

Cypress Harbour does not have a parks shuttle. Off property resorts that do offer shuttles usually run on a fixed and not very frequent schedule. I agree with other that a car rental is necessary.

I recall a "trolley" that ran past the resort to a number of locations. But Disney is not very shuttle friendly and the Space Center is a drive. However, if you use Uber or such for the parks, the parking fee you don't pay might be about as much as the ride, though I'm not sure if WDW charges taxis to enter the lots. Sea World and Universal are pretty much on city streets. Disney is buried deep on its own property. You can walk into Epcot if the taxi drops you at an Epcot resort (Boardwalk, Beach Club, etc.) It's a longer walk into Studios. Magic Kingdom resorts have the monorail and Epcot resorts have the boats. I don't believe they are reserved for guests as are busses as resorts have their own entertainment venues we use when visiting WDW and staying off site. The only real "no,no" I know of is trying to park at the hotel lots before visiting the parks. Animal Kingdom isn't near anything.
