Transfer times getting shorter

The one I just bought was April Use Year, and they did NOT realign me to January (which I was grateful for!). Mine is CWA--so not sure if that makes a difference or not?
Was this your first Wyndham ownership?

Do you already own Wyndham or was this your first contract? They won't realign someone's first contract (in fact, they sell them that way retail, which is why different use year contracts exist in the first place). But if you already own Wyndham with one use year and then buy a resale contract with a different use year, there almost certainly will be a realignment - typically to the latest use year between the two ("latest" being determined by use year end date, so December 31 is the latest possible).

The issue to me is less the money and more the realignment (but again, it won't be a surprise and I knew what I was getting into - so while I find it annoying, it obviously wasn't a dealbreaker for me). From the resort's perspective, they need the full amount of maintenance fees on that contract every year, and I have no problem with the date of transfer being the moment that the payment obligation shifts from the seller to the buyer. It's seamless on the resort's end. The issue is the lack of points for up to 9 months while maintenance fees are still being paid.

I see owners complain in this scenario that Wyndham "stole" their points - but they didn't, they just moved them forward to the latest month of the use year (ending December 31). But Wyndham is then taking maintenance fee payments during a span of the better part of a year without any points to go along with it. On the flip side, I completely understand the need from the resort perspective for the correct amount of maintenance to be paid for that year. I can see how the money is non-negotiable. So the obvious solution would be some number of goodwill/prorated points, but Wyndham won't entertain that possibility anymore.
I don't feel paying on maintenance fees on points that are not available is ok? Wyndham use to compensate owners for points on a use year realignment. My issue is why is it always in Wyndham's favor, why not be fair and compensate owners for points being moved forward 3, 6, or 9 months while not available and maintenance fees are still being paid?

I mean, that's essentially my position in my second paragraph and I don't have an answer for you. There are a lot of things that Wyndham does that I don't particularly love but - their playground, their rules, and there's nothing I can do about it. Wyndham stopped regularly doing any compensation/prorated points for realignments a looooong time ago, like maybe a decade. Up until now I've avoided the issue by sticking to a January UY for all my contracts. But I figured I'd take my chances with a $1 National Harbor contract (and honestly didn't think it would go that low) and consider it part of the cost of acquisition.

New (first-time) Owner....so you might have a point.

If I purchased a January use year for 2025 and it gets transferred this summer, should I expect to get all the points to use between this summer and December 31? Also, if I purchase another contract that transfers after the first but has a January use year as well, will I still get all those points to use until December as well?

I would say iffy on the 1st contract. If it transfers by end of June, likely. But possibly arguable -- if you don't get the points, it would be worth contacting Wyndham (maybe email to Michael Brown's customer support crew). If they don't transfer, I'd ask for a screenshot of the seller's transaction log showing the points exiting their account, and go from there. I don't understand your 2nd question - when are you planning to purchase your 2nd contract - if it transfers next year, with a Jan use year, you'd get your points for use in 2026 (assuming it transfers the 1st half of the year).

I’m currently looking for another small contract but haven’t found it yet. I was wondering if I picked one up and it transferred after the one I’m currently waiting on, would those points effect the first contract’s points.

I am expecting to receive the first set of points that I’m waiting on by June/July. If the second contract (assuming I find what I’m looking for) doesn’t transfer until after January would I lose the points I would have gotten January 1 from the original contract?

Thank you

The contract transfers themselves shouldn't affect each other. Where one might argue that would be if they were not the same use year and Wyndham decided to align the use years. They are supposed to align to the latest (for example if Jan-Dec, this is considered latest, if you were purchasing anything else, it could get aligned to Jan-Dec).

I have a contract that will probably be going to Wyndham to be processed sometime in early/mid-May, so likely won't get processed until August. All the 2025 points are available. Does this mean that Wyndham will confiscate them despite the fact that I will be paying maintenance for the rest of 2025? Has anyone been successful in getting Wyndham to restore these points?

Define confiscate, do you feel the points are being stolen for Wyndhams gain? After all you are paying maintenance fees and after ownership transfers the points should be available for the buyer.

Confiscate is in their real-life example, they're purchasing the contract, the old owner hasn't used any points this year, the contract transfers in the second half of the year and if Wyndham refuses to award the unused points when the contract transfers that would be confiscating.

From what I've heard, this does happen sometimes - though in many cases, I've also heard if the owner pursues it with Wyndham and requests a points audit, the points are eventually awarded as a result. On the flip side, there was an owner on Facebook late last year and they were buying their first resale contract and I was sure the points wouldn't transfer, and in December they actually were given the points automatically without any need for follow-up. So there doesn't seem to be any consistency, but I think the "points won't transfer in the second half of the year" is somewhat overstated but sometimes takes additional effort to fix.

I guess it depends on what way the winds are blowing 😮‍💨

If the 2025 points do not transfer to you, I would ask the seller for screenshots of the transaction showing the points leaving their account. And then talk to Wyndham and ask why you didn't get them. I have seen reports of people following up with Wyndham and receiving the points.
