Trading Power Of The Different SVO Resorts

While interesting, I find this guesstimate of trading power to be equal to common sense. Great resort? Excellent trading. Not that great? So-so trading. Internal trading between Starwood resorts are obviously better and easier. Otherwise, I think this can easily overly confuse would-be resale buyers by making it more difficult than it really is.

Until and unless II publishes a trading guide with specific information, this is all guesswork based on experience. As we know, this type of issue can (and will) change with time, and can do so unexpectedly.

That said, I continue to receive wonderful trades with my Starwood units. :)

It's not really guesswork when you have 7 Starwood resorts you can search with! Having said that, I agree with most of what you said but I'd change it to, "Great resort, great trading; Good resort, great trading for a lot less money." :)

Jerseygirl and LisaRex, thanks for your thoughtful and concise posts on trading different Starwood resorts in II. Posts like yours are very helpful to those readers thinking about buying a Starwood timeshare, by outlining and weighing the trading options in a clear and practical manner. I've generally been in the "buy where you want to vacation" camp (even at the high MF resorts in Hawaii, Nassau, and St John), but can certainly appreciate using a more economical trader in II for great vacations in the system. I think you've laid out a good guide for reasonable expectations. Thank you.

I'm also in the buy where you want to go camp (WSJ and HRA for me - Hawaii is too far for annual visits) but still enjoy my traders for visiting new places and old favorites. I think the keys to trading are flexibility and realistic expectations. I don't think I've ever had what I would consider a down trade (have traded into lessor resorts once or twice if they met a specific need in terms of date and location) .... 95% have been great upgrades ... and that's what makes it fun! Not everyone appreciates the hunt, but I love it! :)
