I have not been actively using my timeshare since 2011 basically. I did a simple trade like for like in 2013. But that is it.

I am curious what kind of up trades are happening these days. Back in 2010 2011 I scored some good ones. Studio from Ko Olina scored Waiohai and a 3BR at St. Kitts.

The Waiohai score was secured on september 7 of 2010 with a check in November 26th. Over 59 days.

Now I am doing some random checking and see a Waiohai Nov 29 check in with my 1BR portion, but not my studio portion.

Has II cracked down on studios scoring larger units? I know it is supposed to be like for like outside of 59 days. That being said how did I score Waiohai outside of 59 days in 2010?

Just curious if Studios have devalued over the past few years so I can manage expectations going forward.

In 2013, there seemed to be a downgrade in studio power. It is still easy to trade up to a 1 br and it isn't impossible to go up to a 2 br outside of flex but it isn't a given and sometimes doesn't happen.

Even looking at Orlando and comparing what you see with a 1 br and a studio you will see a pretty significant difference. The 1 br will see almost the same as the whole 2 br. The studio will see a lot less. An ongoing request may give a little bump and sometimes you can match to available units that were not visible to the studio but sometimes not, or sometimes it takes a week or more and someone with a 1 br M unit can take it before your studio would match. Other times 2 br units come into II and must have lower exchange power because they are visible and can match right away even outside of flex.

How does the ongoing request work? When I start the request process there does not seem to be a way to specifically request a 1BR with kitchen or even a 2BR. Am I missing something? Or do you do an ongoing for resorts with only 2BR?

There isn't. You can either just request 2 br resorts or request a studio and make sure you check constantly so you can call within 24 hrs to reject the studio's or other units that you don't want.

The only way to do a " request first" trade for a 2 bd with a 1 bd unit is to request at resorts with only 2 bds. So with your 1 bd from Ko Olina, you should be able to request and get a 2 bd at Newport Coast BUT you'll only be able to get a 1 bd at Desert Springs even though desert springs is a lot easier trade that NCV

BUT if you just look online you often will be able to see 2 bd trades with your 1 bd unit and 1 bd trades with your studio.

hope this helps

Another change since your last trade is a new feature called eplus. It is a paid option that can be added when you make your exchange that allows you to have the opportunity to made three more trades from the online instant exchange inventory (no ongoing search can be used). There are a few restrictions so make sure to read some other threads to be aware of them. This gives you the option of trying to trade up to a larger unit.

Although these are not all big updrades I have been very happy being able to get what we want, esp for summer and spring break weeks. i think the key is to request early and have realistic expectations

John, those are great trades -- I like the uptrade opportunity with HHI properties because they are 2BR units, and therefore you can put in an OGS using a Studio, and considering multiple properties, have a decent chance to get one. Good work out there!

What were you staying in when we met up with jme, I think during Week 14 2015?

Best,

Greg

Thanks Greg

I have found that HHI, with so many timeshares, usually has some availability, esp if you are willing to settle for something other than the "Big Three". It's great to be on the beach of course, but for my wife and I it's all about just being at Hilton Head. My good buddy Marty has even opened my eyes to possibility of staying at non-marriot properties on the island. Although they are not as luxurious as the marriotts they are another option. Waterside and Spicebush/Swallowtail are a few examples.
When we met this past April we were staying a Harbour Point for 5 days. We were able to get 5 weeknights for 500 destination points. I booked that ressie about 8 months out. I, as some other savvy tuggers, have discovered is that the non beach marriotts are some of the best deals in their system. I hope they continue to remain so for a long time. hope you're having a great summer and hope to see you soon.
