how are these trades handled as far as size you deposit vs size you can get?
does II prioritize other chains like marriott does, ie marriott to marriot has priority than westin to marriott.
is this an easier trade for ii depositing a marriott requesting a different company?

what were some favorite non marriot properties you've traded your marriott for (please include chain name and size of unit)

thanks

When requesting an II exchange, you cannot request an exchange into a unit that has more bedrooms than the unit you have deposited has. One exception is that you can request a bigger unit if the resort you are requesting doesn't have units as small as the one you deposited. Another exception is that during Flexchange, anything you can see online is fair game to confirm, regardless of size.

As for priority, your Marriott week won't have any priority except with other deposited Marriott weeks.

All II exchanges are confirmed based on II's "comparable exchange" methodology. II integrates six factors related to exchange requests into a formula to determine which exchanger gets priority for a specific requested exchange. Although how important each factor is in any single exchange request is known only to II, the six factors are:
(a) The supply of and demand for, within the Exchange Program, the vacation week deposited (Deposit First) or being offered in exchange (Request First), and the Home Resort.

(b) The supply of and demand for, within the Exchange Program, the vacation week and Member Resort being requested in exchange.

(c) The quality, facilities, and overall experience offered by the Home Resort as compared to the quality, facilities, and overall experience of the Member Resort being requested in exchange. This is based on evaluation forms received from exchange guests to the Home Resort, resort inspections and evaluations, and other information received by II regarding the Home Resort.

(d) When the exchange request is received by II. The earlier of two identical requests for the same vacation week with identical relinquishment will receive priority.

(e) The amount of time in advance of the first date of occupancy at which the Home Resort vacation week is relinquished to II.

(f) The unit type and private sleeping capacity being relinquished as compared to the unit type and private sleeping capacity being requested. The priority established for exchange requests is based on the number of persons that the deposited or to-be-relinquished Home Resort unit will accommodate privately. The number of persons accommodated privately is generally determined on the basis of two people per private sleeping area having access to a bathroom. Such bathroom access must not interfere with the privacy of the people who occupy the unit’s other private sleeping areas.

All of the above factors, with the exceptions of when the Home Resort accommodations are relinquished, when a request is received, and the unit type and private sleeping capacity, are constantly changing and are updated by II on an ongoing basis.
Some trades are almost impossible, such as to a Four Seasons or Westin St. John. Trading down to a resort that II believes doesn't come close to matching the quality of your resort are also very difficult because II doesn't want you to have a bad experience compared to what you are used to. Your easiest great trades will be to other Marriotts, largely because of the internal exchange priority.

We have traded our Marriott for DVC (Disney).

Examples:

Marriott Horizons Branson 1 bedroom for Disney Beach Club 1 bedroom.
Marriott Horizons Branson studio for Disney Old Key West 2 bedroom (booked during flexchange).

From my personal experiences, II cares about quality, size, and season. My fixed week 27 in the Smoky Mts trades as good as my Marriott week. My fixed week 27 will pull bigger units sitting online though (I think that's because Week 27 falls around the 4th of July).

Our favorite is definetely the Royals in Cancun. We traded for Royal Caribbean 1 bdr and loved it.

last year my kids wanted to try a cruise, so we traded our 2 BR in Aruba SC. I was able to get a week ( week before Christmas) at the Royal sands in cancun..it was a 1 BR with full kitchen and living room.... real nice... I was able to trade my lock off for another week at the Villa del Palmar Flamingos in Neuevo Vallarta the week before Christmas in 09. Hoefully it will be as nice...I have heard good things.... anyway... firts, i agree that the royal chain does a nice job...second II did us right so far in non Marriott properties.
