Thanks for the detailed review! We stayed at HGV Tradimo Kyoto Gojo two weeks ago. The units are nice, new, and compact. I think this works great as a base to experience Kyoto since it's just one stop (Gojo) from the main station and close enought to visit the main Kyoto sites. I would not call this a resort because there is no restaurant or other amenities aside from a small gym in the basement. There are a few padded benches and washrooms beside the gym that are ok to relax if you have a late flight. There is a 7/11 across the street, a small grocery store a block to the east, and a pharmacy just east. The subway exit is 20 meters from the hotel entrance.
The small half-depth washer dryer works well for a light load, but don't expect it to handle jeans or a larger load. We used the wash and dry option that takes 90 minutes to wash and almost completely dry a small load of synthetics.
We stayed in the lower point standard room for two days as part of a short trip to osaka and kyoto. The standard room face a painted wall that provides no view and reduces the light into the room. Consider upgrading to a balcony unit if you want more natural light.
The Shinkansen train from Tokyo is 2 hr 15min, Osaka is 30 min, KIX Kansai Airport 90 min., and Hiroshima 1hr 40 min away using the fast JR trains. We used the ICOCA card that works for the subway, buses, and most trains. This can be bought as a physical reloadable card at airports and train stations, or as a download to iPhone/Android and Apple watch. It was nice to set this as the default transit card and just tap when riding buses and trains. The high speed JR trains have discounted tickets that can be purchased on the westjr dot co dot jp site, but redeeming the voucher is a real pain. There was one set of machines near the main train station entrance (green passport logo) that read your passport to verify the discount, and the line went extremely slow due to a difficult interface and poor instructions. If you use this, get the tickets well before your train departure. Uber worked for getting taxis the few times we did not use the subway or buses.
Verdict? It's a nice base to spend a few days to a week to explore the Kyoto area. The staff was very polite, and we felt very safe during the entire stay in Japan. Just prepare for crowds everywhere.
I'll add this to Resort Reviews when the resort is loaded.View attachment 126156View attachment 126157View attachment 126158View attachment 126159View attachment 126160View attachment 126161View attachment 126162View attachment 126163View attachment 126164View attachment 126165View attachment 126166
