Tom Cayman, are you okay? How bad was Gustav to the island?

Just checking to see how you weathered the storm. I was glad to hear (at least that the US newswires reported) that there was no flooding or serious injury. How bad a hit was it? Hope all is well with you and your staff.

Thx for asking... Grand Cayman was pretty much missed, Little Cayman took some damage, as did Cayman Brac... but all told, not a major hit to the Cayman Islands.

Airport re-opened this afternoon, most resorts (including theReef) re-opening Sunday, most others (including the Ritz Carlton, Morritts, Comfort Suites) opening Monday.

theReef took a fair amount of "mess" to the beach and sand in all the pools (hey, pros and cons of having a quarter mile of beach!), but had about 35 staff out on the beach all day today and they'll be back tomorrow.....so will be 95% done Sunday, 100% back to normal within a few days.

Best wishes to Cuba and the gulf coast, Gustav is a bad one now.

Tom,

Any idea how badly Jamaica has been affected? A work colleague and his family were due to fly there from the UK yesterday (Saturday).

No specific idea about JA, but they are very vulnerable in mountain areas to heavy rains and flash floods, though the winds were not that strong as it passed.

Keith-

You might want to check the website below for information about the hurricane in Jamaica. Best place I have found for information in the Caribbean.

Good Luck.
