I think it should roll off the top and not against the wall.

Trying to start one of those "blood boiling" topics, and taking this quote out of another thread to start this new one, what is everyone's opinions? People seem to have strong opinions about which way the toilet roll paper is supposed to roll. Personally, I'm fine with either. :)

Well, I know how I prefer that it be. I don't know if there is a right, or wrong way. I had a former friend who used to change the tp in my house to her preferred method. That, I thought, was bit much.

The paper comes over the top at our house. Why? Partly cause that's what my mom did, I suppose. Also, it makes it harder for babies to pull the darn thing all the way out on the floor. We don't have babies any more, but its habit now.

I've been to many houses where the paper is the other way. I find it odd, but I'd never change it...

Honestly, this is a pretty silly thread, as it's just a personal preference on which way you want to dispense your toilet paper. Most people prefer it to come from over the top, but many prefer it the other way. You can set it up either way and who really cares?

Oh no.... watch out because the toilet paper police are coming. Quick, WIPE up the crime scene!

A Golden Nugget 'Cause Your Mother Dug It.

This topic generated prolonged debate back in the Olden Days of obsolescent print media -- a Golden Oldie for sure.

Meanwhile, the technologic fix is obvious. Just install dual dispensers side by side, 1 with the paper unwinding clockwise & the other anticlockwise. That way, everybody gets his or her preference, directionally speaking.

. . . not that there's anything wrong with either direction, or both.

We are 'over the top' people...it only took me about 55 years to get DH to do it right! :whoopie: NO, I will not change it to 'my' way at someone else's house.

JMHO, but I think it's good to have some silly topics here, once in a while. Life needs a little lightening up!!! :cheer:

Over the top, to be sure. :whoopie:

I might change it at a friend's house, but if I did it would be strictly for the laugh factor. People who take such things seriously must be too blessed for their own good.

When I was little there were a few close friends of mom and dad whom we would regularly visit unannounced. If we arrived to find them not at home, we would rearrange whatever lawn furniture, yard tools, outside toys or anything else handy, usually just piling it all up in front of the door so they'd know we'd been there. No one ever took offense...it was just good natured humor. Today we'd probably be arrested for vandalism or criminal mischief!

I think overall folks need to chill a bit.

There's actually a little experiment you can try (I can't believe I even know about this! ;)) that will demonstrate that "over the top" is better:

If you pull at the end of the roll with it "over the top" you'll usually get as much paper as you want. But if you pull at the end of the roll with it feeding from underneath, the weight of the roll may actually interfere with "smooth dispensing" and cause the paper to tear off sooner than you'd want, meaning you'd have to go back for more. So to speak... ;)

Try it. Silly as it sounds, I did years ago, and convinced my kids to do it "over the top." That is, if I could convice them to bother to CHANGE THE EMPTY ROLL! :)

Over the top............

I was going to start this thread after Fern's shoes and socks post.......

Definitely over the top. Whenever you see those "decorator rolls" with little prints on them, they must be placed over the top to see the prints properly, so I assume there are more over the top people than under people.

I never thought of it as clockwise or counterclockwise and I find that description interesting.

It's over the top at our house.

One of my friends years ago always insisted that under was the only correct way. So as a joke, I would always change it at her house ;)

Over the top would be a problem at my house...

My cats would have the roll all over the house.:)

I have a friend, who shall remain nameless, who emailed to tell me she thought of me when ever she used the bathroom....she used the TP with the yellow Lab puppy on the paper so the kids would know when enough was enough  Yes, we have a yellow Lab...Dakota.

Obviously, there are a lot of folks here who have no clue as to the "proper" way to dispense toilet paper. The part that hangs should be in the back.

And obviously, I know all about being proper! NOT!!!

Did you know that fighting over how the the toilet paper should be hung is one of the major causes of divorce? :crash:

Actually, most city codes recommend over-the-top and REQUIRE placement on the wall to the RIGHT of the seatee.

T.P. Riddle

Q. How many husbands does it take to install a new roll of T.P. ?

A. Husbands never install new rolls of T.P., so nobody knows how many husbands it would take if they ever tried it.

Years ago some brands of TP had designs printed on it. You could only see it if it was rolled over the top. Clearly that's the only way to do it. ;)

As I recall, this was a hot topic in Ann Landers' column a long time ago.

Does the toilet paper unroll in the same direction south of the equator?

Gosh....ya think!!!! :hysterical: :D

And btw the correct was is over the top;) ....of course I am the only fussy one about it at our house.....btw, I learned the proper way from a Dear Abby article years and years ago!!!:D

It's over the top here, but does it really matter. We're only supposed to use one square each time. :)

Actually, most city codes ... REQUIRE placement on the wall to the RIGHT of the seatee.

That would be a major problem in one of our bathrooms...that would place it about 4 feet away...my arm isn't long enough! (No room on the wall "behind and to the right" either so that wouldn't be a solution)

It would also be a problem at my mom's house, my sister's house, my mil's house, my sil's house, my grandfather's house, ...
