...because 60 days before check in Starwood can confiscate any unreserved inventory...

I don't think this is Starwood SOP, can is different than will. I have made outstanding reservations inside the 60 days window that got me OF units in Hawaii and Pool Villas in ST John both during school Holidays...YMMV...

They will confiscate anything they need for their rental pool - if there is more availability than they need, obviously they won't take it, but if they want it - they take it.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think we have made a decision to go forward with the purchase of the WKV. If anyone has a broker or a site you recommend to find an available property, please let me know. I have been talking to a broker I connected with on eBay but I certainly want to expand my search before breaking out the checkbook.

Thanks again!

Congratulations! I think you will be very happy with your purchase. Buying our TSs is one of the best decisions we've ever made. However, be forwarned, it does spoil you..

Just another thing for you to think about when booking even with kids in school. Going during xmas vacation and spring break is just more expensive all round. Flights are always crazy expensive those times.

What we've been doing since we got our memberships is booking on weeks where the kids have like a day or two off of school that week for whatever reason, end of quarter, early release days, whatever. So they miss 3 or 4 days of school, big deal they can make up the homework. But its alot cheaper to fly and room availability greatly increases..

Mcernik, a very valid point. However, we end up flying somewhere every Christmas and for us a flight to Phoenix would be cheaper than flying to Detroit and/or Minneapolis to visit family. Plus the weather will be much nicer! Nonetheless, we will keep our eyes open for those short weeks!
