Tips/Advice for receiving ownership transfer from family member?

I have just learned that a family member would like to give me their BG ownership, as they are no longer able to travel easily. I do not have details of their contract yet, but I know that it is probably Title E, no loan, likely at The Fountains in Orlando, FL. Maintenance fees are approximately $1600, and they have some sort of status or VIP benefits.

Another bit of information that might be relevant: we are Canadian citizens and our family are US citizens.

They will be contacting BG to ask how to proceed, but I would love to know if there are any gotchas or pitfalls we should be looking out for with this transfer, as we are new to timeshares and to BG. I have read that they must fill out an Affidavit of Family Relationship form for their charter benefits to transfer to us. Is there anything else that we need to be aware of or make them aware of before they speak to BG about this?

This would be considered a family transfer and is quite easily initiated on the BG transfer portal. For a family transfer, any charter benefits will transfer to you (which is not the case with resale), including any VIP status. Based on your mentioned MF, your family is probably Bronze level.

Option #4 will get you the family transfer affidavit (also here: https://www.bluegreenowner.com/-/media/PDF/Resort-Title/Affidavit-of-Relationship-form-version.pdf) which needs to be signed and notarized before proceeding. Then starting over, once you have a signed affidavit and all needed info, choose option #6 and fill out the request. You will need your families owner number and deed info when making the submission. Really no need to "talk" to BG, just initiate the transfer on the portal.
