I don't think I have ever tipped a housekeeper in my life. Tipping culture is out of control.

I tip wait staff- assuming the service is good. If the service is bad I have no issue leaving little or no tip.

I tip people that perform a personal service as well- haircut, massage, wax, etc.

I will also tip if someone (like an airport shuttle driver or porter or bellhop) helps with my bags. If the shuttle driver just sits there and doesn't help- no tip.

Way too many entitled, lazy people in the world today looking for handouts that they are not going to get from me.

I have noticed that the amounts people are saying they tip housekeeping in this thread (most noted is $20) hasn't really changed over the last 10-15 years since I have been following the forum.

Its shrinkflation....the newer villas are smaller today than the ones built 15 year ago... thus easier to clean ;-)

Worth noting that, for example, in California the minimum wage is now $20/hour. Nobody gets paid less than that, including those in “tipped” positions like restaurant servers. And we have never had a lower rate for tipped workers than for others, unlike some states. That does not stop folks from expecting generous tips, lol.

Actually, the $20/hour is just for fast food employees. That said, hard for other employers to compete, so they all need to up the ante.

Oops, you are sort of right, it’s fast food and healthcare that are $20, everything else is $16. But I think it’s hard to find a job in any urban area that isn’t starting at $20-25/hour, and that is for essentially unskilled jobs.

Also a lot of cities have their own minimum wages which may be higher than the state minimum. Where I live in San Francisco it’s $18.67 for all jobs. So the state $20 will apply for fast food and healthcare and the local $18.67 applies for everything else.
